Job Summary:
The Engage Foundation is seeking a thoughtful, equity-driven HR Specialist to support our growing team. This role will help shape and implement inclusive human resource practices that reflect our values of community, care, and justice. The HR Specialist will work across the organization to ensure our internal systems foster a healthy, collaborative, and mission-aligned work culture. This is a great opportunity for someone who brings both administrative expertise and a people-first approach to HR.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead Core HR Functions and Operations
- Support recruitment processes including job posting, candidate outreach, screening, and coordination of interviews.
- Maintain accurate and confidential HR records, contracts, and personnel files.
- Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure positive transitions for staff and contractors.
2. Strengthen People Policies and Workplace Culture
- Develop and refine HR policies that prioritize equity, accessibility, and psychological safety.
- Help build structures for performance reviews, feedback loops, and professional development.
- Advise staff on HR-related questions and ensure alignment with provincial and federal labour standards.
3. Promote Equity-Centered HR Practices
- Apply anti-oppressive and trauma-informed practices to HR systems and decision-making.
- Monitor and support initiatives that foster staff wellbeing, inclusion, and growth.
- Collaborate with leadership on team-building, conflict resolution, and culture initiatives.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Demonstrated experience in human resources, people operations, or HR coordination—preferably in nonprofit, grassroots, or mission-driven settings.
- Strong understanding of employment law, HR best practices, and equity-informed policies.
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills; high attention to detail and confidentiality.
- Clear and compassionate communication skills with a team-oriented mindset.
- Comfort with digital tools such as Google Workspace
