Kava is searching for an engaging, courteous Barista who is passionate about food and beverage preparation and education. The Barista will greet guests, answer their questions, retrieve menu and beverage orders, accept payments, and prepare and serve food and drinks. You will maintain a clean and well-stocked workspace and cafe area, update displays, and continuously expand your knowledge of food and beverage quality controls, preparation methods, and presentation. You will make sandwiches and complete food prep for the sandwich station. You will also assist with dishwashing as needed.

- Welcoming guests into the Cafe, informing them about specials or new items, answering questions, and accepting orders and payments.
- Preparing foods, such as sandwiches or baked goods, and, brewing coffee and tea, and serving specialty items to our guests.
- Packaging food and beverages for sale.
- Selling coffee and tea blends and coffee brewing equipment, highlighting the differences between items and educating guests about brewing methods.
- Cleaning and restocking work and café areas, emptying trash, and sanitizing equipment and utensils, and dishwashing.
- Learning about brewing methods, café beverages, food preparation, and presentation techniques to improve food quality.
- Assist with retail stocking in preparation for retail display rack.
- Ensure in the overall cleanliness of the café (continuously sweep, mop and wipe surfaces when free to do so)
- Updating signage and displays to attract internal and external guests.
Taking inventory and replenishing items in display cases, fridges, and behind the counter.
- Adhering to all health and food safety regulations and quality controls.
Barista Requirements:
- Previous coffee knowledge an asset.
Experience in food and beverage preparation or customer service preferred. Training and willingness to continue learning about food and beverage preparation.
- Exceptional listening and communication skills.
- Can-do attitude and sense of urgency
- Ability to walk, bend, and stand for extended periods.
- Availability to work around peak hours, including nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
- A polite, engaging personality.
- Commitment to customer satisfaction and service excellence.
- Willingness to work as part of a high-energy, efficient team in a fast-paced environment
