Our school sits on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dunn First Nation and Ta’an Kwachan Council within the wilderness city of Whitehorse, Yukon. FHC is a 8-12 school of approximately 780 students, serving a diverse cultural population.
Our educational professionals facilitate academic excellence and model life-long learning. This position provides support for individual students or small groups of students who have diverse learning needs. These needs may be academic, social-emotional, medical or a combination of all. Students with such needs may demonstrate behaviours that require patience, compassion, and knowledge of strategies that support neuro-diverse learners.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience
- Experience implementing student support plans (Behaviour, Safety & Learning) is an asset
- Post-secondary training in educational assistant, exceptionality worker, special education assistant, or a related field is an asset
- Current First Aid/CPRC is an asset
- Non-violent crisis intervention or de-escalation training would be an asset
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
Grade 12 graduation or equivalent- Experience working with youth who have behavioural or socio-emotional or complex learning needs
- Willingness to assist students with academic, socio-emotional, and experiential learning
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills working with students, administration, and other staff members;
- Willingness and ability to work as a member of a professional staff team to support school initiatives and special events;
- Ability and interest in working to support whole school goals beyond the classroom (e.g., sports, experiential opportunities, clubs).
- A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population.
- Fluent in English and French may be an asset;
- Experience working in a high school would be an asset
- Good organizational skills and an ability to work with minimal supervision;
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provide before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date-
Standard First Aid; to be provided within 3 months of the first day of employment
