POSITION SUMMARY
The Project Manager is a field-based leader responsible for the end-to-end delivery of utility infrastructure projects, including distribution rebuilds, substation construction, and transmission upgrades.
This role leads projects from planning and mobilization through construction execution and closeout, working closely with field teams, subcontractors, clients, and internal support functions including engineering, procurement, and project controls. The Project Manager operates with a high level of autonomy and is accountable for safe, productive, and cost-effective project delivery, ensuring alignment across scope, schedule, quality, and commercial objectives.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Planning & Execution
- Lead project execution planning including work sequencing, field methodology, and resource planning.
- Coordinate daily and weekly planning activities with crews, subcontractors, and site leadership.
- Oversee mobilization activities including permitting, material coordination, and equipment scheduling.
- Monitor project schedule performance and implement recovery plans when required.
- Ensure alignment between field execution and overall project delivery strategy.
Engineering, Procurement & Construction Coordination
- Coordinate between engineering, procurement, and field execution teams to support constructability and delivery requirements.
- Track engineering deliverables and material procurement status to support construction sequencing.
- Identify and escalate design, material, or execution constraints impacting field progress.
- Ensure construction activities align with issued-for-construction drawings and project requirements.
Commercial Management & Cost Control
- Manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
- Track production, quantities, and subcontractor performance against scope and budget.
- Support change management processes including scope validation, pricing, and client approvals.
- Identify commercial risks and support mitigation strategies to protect project outcomes.
Safety & Environmental Leadership
- Enforce company safety programs and ensure compliance across all field activities.
- Lead safety engagement, field audits, and incident/near-miss reviews.
- Promote proactive hazard identification and corrective action implementation.
- Ensure environmental requirements are integrated into execution planning and subcontractor scopes.
Stakeholder & Client Management
- Act as primary liaison for clients, Indigenous partners, regulators, and internal project stakeholders.
- Lead project meetings, progress updates, and milestone reporting.
- Manage issue resolution and maintain alignment between field execution and client expectations.
- Coordinate communication between field leadership, engineering, procurement, and project controls teams.
Quality Assurance & Project Controls
- Ensure quality systems, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and turnover requirements are implemented and completed.
- Coordinate field verification, redlines, and as-built documentation.
- Support project controls activities including progress tracking, reporting, and schedule updates.
- Ensure compliance with contract requirements and project quality standards.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- 5–8+ years of progressive project management experience in utility, civil, or infrastructure construction.
- Strong background in field execution, construction coordination, and multi-discipline project delivery.
- Experience managing subcontractors, schedules, budgets, and changing site conditions.
- Solid understanding of construction drawings, scopes of work, and contract requirements.
- Proficient in project management systems such as Procore, SAP, MS Project, and related reporting tools.
- Diploma or degree in construction management, engineering technology, or related field.
- PMP, CET, or equivalent certification considered an asset.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel and support execution at active or remote project sites.
