AprilVets’ experienced veterinary team is seeking a cross-trained Client Services Representative/Veterinary Assistant.

This is a full-time position for an experienced Client Service Representative/Veterinary Assistant.
Qualifications and Attributes:
- Veterinary Assistant course or equivalent experience in the veterinary field
- Prior experiences as veterinary assistant and front desk staff strongly desirable
- Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, procedures, and protocols
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in person, by telephone, text and email
- A compassionate nature with the ability to empathize and interact effectively with clients and their pets
- Detail-oriented and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated ability to work well within a team and contribute to a positive work culture
- Prior certification or experience in Fear Free handling is a plus
Responsibilities and Technical Applications:
- Assist with administrative and customer service tasks as needed including phone triage and scheduling
- Coordinate with our veterinary team to ensure efficient patient flow
- Learn and effectively use our veterinary software to schedule appointments, manage patient records, and communicate within the team and with clients
- Honour the confidentiality of patient and client information
- Assist with restraint/handling and note-taking during appointments
- Assist in handling animals safely and compassionately using Fear Free methods
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms and equipment
- Ensure cleanliness and hygiene of hospital environment
- Administer oral medications and treatments under veterinary supervision
- Aid in preparing patients for surgery
- Assist with xrays and other procedures requiring restraint, ensuring proper radiation safety
- Provide nutrition and husbandry care to hospitalized patients (setting up patient kennels, ensuring cleanliness, feeding in-hospital patients)
- Monitor and record patient weights and temperatures
- Prepare surgical packs and equipment for sterilization
Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive compensation starting at $20.50/hr
- Full time schedule to be determined collaboratively - no on call, overnight or weekend responsibilities
