We are looking for a reliable Line Cook/Dishwasher to join our fast-paced diner team and help us keep the heart of the house running smoothly. You will be responsible for preparing classic diner favorites to order while ensuring the dish pit stays clear and organized throughout the rush. Whether you are flipping eggs on the flat top or keeping the coffee mugs sparkling, your ability to move quickly and support the team is vital. Duties
- Short-Order Cooking: Prepare diner classics like eggs, pancakes, burgers, and sandwiches quickly and accurately according to ticket orders.
- Station Setup: Stock the line with fresh ingredients, condiments, and prep items before the breakfast or lunch rush.
- Hand Washing: Clean plates, utensils, large pots, pans, and griddle tools.
- Food Prep: Chop vegetables, slice meats, and prepare house-made batters or sauces during slower periods.
- Kitchen Sanitation: Sweep and mop floors, wipe down counters, and sanitize high-touch surfaces throughout the shift.
- Trash Removal: Empty kitchen trash, recycling, and grease bins to maintain a safe and odor-free environment.
Requirements
- Experience: Prior experience in food preparation, cooking, or food service is preferred; previous experience in a fast-paced restaurant or breakfast diner kitchen is a significant plus.
- Skills: Strong understanding of meal preparation and classic diner cooking methods (e.g., flat-top grilling, poaching eggs, fry station).
- Efficiency: Ability to work quickly and maintain a high sense of urgency during "rushes" while keeping a sharp eye on food quality and plate presentation.
- Communication: Excellent teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with servers and other kitchen staff in a loud, busy environment.
- Certifications: Valid Ontario Food Handler Certification is required (or must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
- Safety Compliance: Must be willing to complete mandatory Ontario workplace training, including WHMIS, Worker Health and Safety Awareness, and Workplace Violence & Harassment prevention.
- Physical Demands: Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs. (approx. 23 kg) as needed for stocking or cleaning duties.
- Availability: Flexibility to work a diner schedule, including early mornings and weekends
