Malamar Construction is a local, family-owned renovation company specializing in high-quality residential renovations and additions across Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge.
We focus on full-scale projects including kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and additions. Our work is detail-oriented, well-organized, and built around a clear process from start to finish.
We are looking to add a Lead Carpenter to our team to take ownership of projects in the field and help drive quality, efficiency, and consistency on-site.
Position Overview
The Lead Carpenter is responsible for running day-to-day site operations on residential renovation projects. This role involves hands-on carpentry work while leading a small crew, coordinating workflow, and ensuring projects are completed to a high standard.
This is not a general labour role. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, can lead by example, and can keep a job moving.
Responsibilities
- Lead and execute residential renovation projects (framing, drywall, trim, flooring, etc.)
- Manage and direct 2–5 crew members on-site
- Coordinate daily tasks and maintain project pacing
- Ensure all work meets company quality standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite
- Review drawings and ensure work aligns with plans
- Communicate progress, issues, and material needs with the Project Manager
- Identify and solve site challenges proactively
Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years experience in residential construction/renovations
- Strong carpentry skills from rough framing through finishing
- Proven ability to lead projects or small crews
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and scopes of work
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
- Valid Class G driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Own basic hand tools
- Experience with additions and structural work is an asset
