Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and responsible Lifeguard and Swim Instructor to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all pool visitors. This role involves monitoring swimming areas, enforcing safety rules, and providing swim instruction to individuals of various skill levels. Duties
- Monitor pool areas continuously to ensure the safety of all swimmers and prevent accidents or emergencies.
- Enforce pool rules and regulations to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all guests.
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, providing first aid, CPR, and aquatic rescues as required.
- Conduct swim lessons for individuals and groups following the appropriate lesson Lifesaving Society standards and curriculum.
- Assess participants' swimming abilities and adapt lessons to accommodate different ages, skill levels, and learning needs.
- Plan and deliver engaging, safe, and effective swim instruction that promotes skill development, confidence, and water safety.
- Evaluate participant progress and provide constructive feedback to swimmers and parents/guardians.
- Complete lesson records, report cards, attendance tracking, and other required program documentation accurately and on time.
- Assist with participant placement and swim assessments as required.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with participants, parents, patrons, and fellow staff members.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pool deck, lesson equipment, change rooms, and surrounding facility areas.
- Set up, inspect, and properly store instructional and safety equipment before and after lessons.
- Assist with public swims, special events, rentals, and aquatic programs as assigned.
- Support a positive team environment by working collaboratively with supervisors, lifeguards, and fellow instructors.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures of the facility, ensuring all safety and operational standards are met.
- Promote a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all patrons.
Qualifications
- Current National Lifeguard (NL) certification
- Current Swim Instructor certification (LSI or YSI)
- First aid certification (Standard First Aid or Intermediate first aid). Must be current within two years.
- Prior experience in lifeguarding or swim instruction is preferred but not required; training will be provided if necessary.
- Strong communication skills to effectively instruct swimmers and communicate safety information.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond swiftly in emergency situations.
- Physical fitness to perform rescue procedures, including swimming, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
- A responsible attitude with a commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all patrons. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about water safety, teaching swimming skills, and fostering a fun yet secure aquatic environment for community members of all ages.
Schedule Requirements
This position primarily works weekday evening shifts during July and August.
Staff can expect to work Monday–Friday evenings, with schedules alternating between:
- Swim Instruction Shifts: 3:45 PM – 7:15 PM
- Lifeguard Shifts: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Successful applicants must be available to work throughout July and August and be able to reliably attend scheduled evening shifts.
Additional opportunities to pick up extra lifeguarding and instructional shifts may be available throughout the summer at various pool locations for staff who are interested.
Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
