Nisbet Lodge, located at 740 Pape Avenue East, operates a Christian and charitable 103-bed long-term care home is currently accepting resumes for the Manager of Therapeutic Recreation.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Manager of Therapeutic Recreation is responsible for the management and leadership of the Activation Department. This position is responsible for the planning, organization, and implementation of innovative programs based on the abilities strengths, needs, interests and former lifestyle of the residents. In collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, the Manager Therapeutic Recreation will ensure and promote a range of programming and services that meet the individual, physical, social, psychological, intellectual, cultural and spiritual needs and expectations of the residents in keeping with the Fixing Long-term care Act. This includes promoting and fostering resident driven programs and care that reflects the values and preferences of the resident and is in keeping with the Mission Vision and Values of Nisbet Lodge.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
· Lead the planning, development, and delivery of comprehensive recreation, wellness, therapeutic activation, and community engagement programs that enhance residents’ physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual well-being.
· Develop and oversee inclusive, resident-centered programming including therapeutic recreation, wellness initiatives, special events, volunteer programs, cultural activities, rehabilitation supports, and intergenerational opportunities.
· Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams, healthcare professionals, community organizations, schools, volunteers, and external service providers to support individualized care plans and optimize resident outcomes.
· Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate recreation staff, students, contracted service providers, and volunteers while fostering a positive, collaborative, and resident-focused workplace culture.
· Manage departmental budgets, resources, program schedules, documentation, and funding opportunities including grants, sponsorships, and community partnerships.
· Monitor program quality, participation, resident satisfaction, and outcomes while implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engagement, accessibility, and service delivery.
· Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, accreditation standards, accessibility requirements, infection prevention and control protocols, occupational health and safety standards, and long-term care best practices in Ontario.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field such as Recreation Therapy, Social Work, Gerontology, or Healthcare Administration.
· Training in Gerontology considered an asset.
· Minimum 2 years of experience in program development and management, preferably within the long-term care sector.
· Demonstrated leadership skills with a proven ability to motivate and inspire teams to achieve excellence in service delivery.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with residents, families, staff, and community partners.
· Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices related to programs and volunteer services in long-term care settings in Ontario.
· Passion for working with seniors and a commitment to person-centered care principles.
· Passion for working and developing programs that support Christian values.
· Knowledge of applicable legislation (Fixing Long Term care Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act etc. ).
· Proficient in the use of various computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
· Experience documenting in Point Click Care.
· PIECES,GPA and CPR certification preferred.
· Must be comfortable promoting faith based programming.
