This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence three days per week, with time split between our Markham office and supporting our Transitional Care Units throughout the Durham Region. The remaining days are worked remotely from home. Travel within the Durham Region is required.
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing advanced, specialized, and administrative duties in support of the Human Resources team. This includes a variety of tasks that spans the employee lifecycle as it relates to recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, employee relations, retention and attribution and HR reporting.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides coaching, advice, and guidance to leaders and Human Resources Coordinator/Administrator on employee relations issues, including but not limited to, complaints, policy violations, investigations, discipline, and terminations.
- Supports leaders and employees with the interpretation of HR policies and procedures.
- Assist with and advise on internal investigations and provide recommendations on issues.
- Maintain effective employee relations including participation in employee complaints resolution, mediation/facilitation and intervention in employee and managers conflicts.
- Provide support to the Human Resources Business Partner (direct supervisor), by researching past practices and preparing documents for investigations and resolution.
- Works as part of the HR team to develop best practices and process developments that enhance the HR value proposition to the business.
- Utilize continuous improvement to develop functional efficiencies and ways of working.
- Actively participate in various HR projects including research and analysis, developing, and revising policies/processes.
- Actively involved in the roll out of policies and new processes.
- Provide support in generating reports from the HR systems and importantly, provide insights and analysis.
- Prepares and maintains internal and external reports as requested.
- Assists with developing, coordinating, and recommending changes for the improvement of workflow.
- Supports the triage of general inquiries that are channeled through the ICS HR inbox and assigns them to appropriate HR team member.
- Work with the Payroll team to make triage and address payroll and benefits issues adjustments as necessary (e.g., retro pay, missing hours etc.).
- Submit necessary documentation to Payroll, with respect to leave of absences and involuntary/voluntary terminations.
- Coordinate and facilitate PeopleSoft records and reporting when applicable.
- Conducts periodic audits of human resource activities to ensure compliance with laws, policies, and procedures, along with always ensuring audit readiness.
- Participates in professional development sessions or seminars.
- Works on special projects.
- Develop and deliver training material and sessions.
- Provide coverage for HR team members as needed and oversees the HR Advisor and HR administrator when HRBP is away.
- Maintain current knowledge of provincial legislation relating to Employment Standards, Human Rights, Workplace Health and Safety, and Labour laws.
Procedures.
- Participates in proactive Health & Safety activities while performing all duties. Is responsible to notify immediate Supervisor of any Health & Safety risks or concerns.
- Maintains confidentiality of client and corporate information and discusses same only with appropriate Bayshore personnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education
- Post secondary education in Human Resources.
- Certified Human Resources Professional preferred or working towards the designation is an asset.
Experience
- A minimum of 5+ years progressive Human Resources experience preferably within a multi-location service-driven enterprise.
- Ability to effectively manage conflicts and diffuse escalations.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
- Ability to design and implement effective training and development.
- Demonstrated knowledge of employment legislation, coaching and counselling, dispute resolution and facilitation skills, principles of change management.
- Ability to drive results as an individual contributor while staying focused on overall HR team goals and success.
- Ability to coach and guide clients across all levels of an organization.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Exceptional judgment and ability to solve problems independently.

- Proven, progressive experience and demonstrated effectiveness developing HR strategies.
- Knowledge of Ontario employment standards and human rights legislation.
- Strong computer skills working with MS Office programs.
