Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Overnight Child & Youth Care Worker (Awake) to provide attentive and compassionate care for children and youth with diverse needs, including the vulnerable and high/at risk population. This position requires individuals who are committed to ensuring a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment during overnight hours. The ideal candidate will be experienced in working with children, possess teaching skills, and have a genuine passion for making a positive impact on young lives.
Duties
- Monitor and supervise children and youth throughout the overnight shift, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Provide emotional support and foster a calming environment to promote restful sleep.
- Assist with daily routines such as bedtime preparations, hygiene, and medication administration as needed.
- Engage children in age-appropriate activities that support development and socialization.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each child's needs.
- Document observations, incidents, and progress accurately in accordance with program policies.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure consistent care and effective communication.
- Respond promptly to any emergencies or behavioral challenges, following established safety protocols.
Requirements
- Experience working with children and individuals with disabilities is highly preferred.
- Strong teaching abilities to support developmental needs and facilitate learning opportunities.
- Compassionate, patient, and attentive demeanor suitable for overnight caregiving roles.
- Ability to remain awake and alert throughout the entire overnight shift.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with children, families, and team members.
- Current and clear (completed within the last 6 months) and clear Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check
- Prior experience in child or youth care settings is advantageous but not mandatory; training will be provided for qualified candidates committed to growth in this field.
- Shift Work: Sunday to Saturday (8 hour shifts)
- Group Care experience required (minimal of 2 years of previous experience)
- Post secondary education in a related field or equivalent combination and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to support and engage with diverse communities and perspectives, including indigenous peoples, LGBTQ+, and 2-spirit individuals.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate with staff, persons served, and stakeholders.
- Be able to plan, prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks and projects while carrying out ongoing responsibilities
- Commitment to confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
- Advanced skills in Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)
- Keyboarding skills at 45 wpm
- Demonstrate initiative, sound judgement, and attention to detail relating to assigned responsibilities.

Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
