Job Details:
Position Title: Environmental Services Assistant
Status: Full-Time Support
Hours: 35 hours per week – (9:00 AM-5:00 PM, Monday - Friday)
Faculty/Department: Student Housing
Campus/Location: Lakeshore Campus (with occasional work at the North Campus based on operational needs)
Salary: Payband: B; Salary Range: $24.51 - $28.30; Starting Salary: $24.51
Progression through the payband is in accordance with the increments in the payband as outline in the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement based on actual service in the payband.

With just over 1,750 bed spaces across two campuses and five buildings, our self-operated residence provides a supportive home-away-from-home for students throughout the academic year and summer. Within Residence Services, our dedicated team oversees key portfolios:
Residence Admissions, Off Campus Housing, Residence Operations, Front Desk & Summer Operations, and Residence Life. Together, we deliver exceptional service and foster a connected, inclusive, and thriving living environment.
About the Environmental Services Assistant Role:
The Environmental Services Assistant is primarily responsible for the year-round delivery of high quality cleaning services in suites and/or semi-suites, as well as common areas. The incumbent is also responsible for hotel-style cleaning primarily during the summer months, and participates in the building-wide turn over for summer and fall.
Responsible for the cleaning of suites and/or semi-suites by:
Performing cleaning duties such as sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, scrubbing of shared areas and washrooms in each unit
Identifying damages and other potential concerns while in units and reporting to the Coordinator
Developing positive working relationships with students and communicating to actively engage them in preparing their rooms properly for cleaning
Alerting management or appropriate staff of atypical behaviours in students or guests
Working with the Coordinator to develop programs to help improve students’ participation in cleaning
Participating in all meetings to keep abreast of cleaning techniques and to ensure cleaning standards are maintained
Performing deep cleaning of vacant rooms
Preparing dirty linen for pick-up, unpacking clean linen deliveries
Assisting with move in/move out inspections
Cleaning common areas by:
Taking on additional cleaning when short staffed or during periods of extra cleaning - may be asked to clean lounges, studies and hallways
Reporting any damages or issues to the Coordinator
Assisting with assessing the common area cleaning requirements
Completing inventory of linens and supplies
In addition to the cleaning listed above, delivering hotel style services, primarily during the summer months, by:
Performing cleaning duties such as vacuuming, dusting, wiping down furniture in bedrooms
Making beds, changing linens and towels, removing garbage
Providing additional customer service by giving students or guests direction information as requested
Assisting in training other staff in cleaning techniques and procedures

Experience/Skills
Minimum of one year experience in high-volume cleaning in a hotel, long-term care, college/university residence, or other living environment.
