Position Summary
The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring the transportation and delivery of structural steel products, including H-Pile, Wide Flange Beams, and Pipe. This role works closely with sales, inventory yards, carriers, and customers to ensure materials are shipped accurately, cost-effectively, and on schedule. The Logistics Coordinator plays a key role in maintaining excellent customer service while optimizing freight costs and supporting efficient supply chain operations.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation & Freight Management
- Schedule daily carrier pickups and deliveries to meet customer requirements and project timelines.
- Negotiate freight rates with trucking vendors to secure competitive pricing and maximize transportation savings.
- Prepare freight confirmations, bills of lading, and other shipping documentation for carriers.
- Track loads in transit and provide shipment status updates to the Senior Logistics Coordinator and sales team.
- Ensure timely delivery of materials and proactively address transportation challenges.
- Monitor delivery delays and develop solutions for issues such as truck breakdowns, weather disruptions, route changes, or other unforeseen circumstances.
- Escalate significant transportation or delivery issues to the Senior Logistics Coordinator for review and resolution.
- Prepare trucking analysis reports and transportation performance summaries as required.
Inventory & Yard Coordination
- Arrange the release of material from company inventory yards and communicate product requirements and estimated shipment dates to yard personnel.
- Verify shipping tallies to ensure products shipped match customer sales orders and descriptions of goods.
- Resolve discrepancies or shipping issues with yard personnel to ensure shipment accuracy.
- Coordinate with yard contacts to ensure material is prepared and available for scheduled pickups.
Documentation & Customer Support
- Prepare blind shipping tallies and provide Material Test Reports (MTRs) to customers as required.
- Maintain accurate shipping records and documentation for all outbound shipments.
- Keep detailed records of quoted freight rates versus negotiated rates to monitor transportation cost savings and identify efficiencies.
- Provide customers and internal stakeholders with shipment updates and delivery information.
Reporting & Administrative Support
- Perform data entry and maintain accurate logistics and transportation records.
- Conduct open sales order and open purchase order reconciliations to ensure all product movements are properly accounted for.
- Generate reports and analyze freight spending, carrier performance, and logistics metrics.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on transportation efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of logistics, transportation, dispatch, or supply chain experience, preferably within the steel, construction, manufacturing, or industrial sectors.
- Experience coordinating truckload and flatbed transportation is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of structural steel products, including H-Pile, Wide Flange Beams, and Pipe, is preferred.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and transportation or ERP systems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, carriers, sales personnel, and yard operations.

Working Conditions
- Office-based role with frequent interaction with carriers, inventory yards, and customers.
- Fast-paced environment requiring effective prioritization of multiple daily shipments and deadlines.
- Occasional extended hours may be required to support urgent deliveries or transportation issues.
Pay: $60,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
