Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Mill Assembly Lead Hand to oversee daily operations within our manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, technical knowledge, and hands-on experience with Mill assembly, tools, and machinery. This role is vital in ensuring production efficiency, safety, and quality standards are maintained. The Lead Hand will serve as a key point of contact between management and team members, fostering a productive and collaborative work environment.
Duties
- Supervise, coordinate, and and mentor team members
- Prioritize and assign daily work orders and drawings to ensure production deadlines are met
- Ensuring adequate hardware is available for successful completion of jobs
- Overseeing general housekeeping - ensuring organization and cleanliness of workstations and department
- Monitor work progress, track performance to meet project deadlines, and resolve assembly-related technical issues
- Inspect the quality of finished products or in process, subassemblies, and materials to ensure conformance to company or client quality standards
- Keeping all machines in good repair and keeping maintenance logbooks current; reporting of any deficiencies or repairs required
- Requesting proper tooling and maintaining tool inventory
- Conducting time studies, setting expectations and ensuring compliance
- Assist with assembly processes, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and efficiently
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and tools, performing basic maintenance or reporting issues
- Train new employees on job related tasks, safety procedures, equipment operation, and company policies
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
- Maintain accurate records of production output, inventory levels, and work progress
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying workflow efficiencies and potential hazards
Skills
- 5 plus years of experience in woodworking, millwork, or a similar manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in a supervisory, lead, or mentoring role with the ability to motivate and guide team members
- Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and shop drawings
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery (e.g., CNC machines, saws).
- Sound knowledge of wood materials, assembly methods, and safety procedures
- Excellent communication for clear instructions and reporting, troubleshooting, and organizational skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot equipment issues effectively
- Knowledge of safety standards and procedures within industrial settings
