Project Manager - Operations (Transportation & Logistics)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager - Operations to oversee contract performance, operational execution, and financial results for transportation and logistics operations.
This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable project delivery while managing subcontractors, internal teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in transportation, logistics, heavy industry, or resource operations, with proven success managing contracts, teams, and operational performance in a safety-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Contract Management
Manage contractual relationships with subcontractors, ensuring compliance with service agreements, safety standards, and performance expectations.
Oversee daily transportation and logistics operations to ensure reliability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Monitor operational KPIs, including delivery performance, productivity, equipment utilization, and turnaround times.
Identify challenges and implement corrective actions to improve performance.
Financial & Business Management
Maintain accountability for contract financial performance, including revenue, costs, and profitability.
Monitor budgets, analyze cost variances, and work with leadership to improve operational efficiency and margins.
Site & Asset Management
Ensure operational sites and equipment are maintained in a safe, organized, and compliant condition.
Identify equipment, staffing, and resource requirements and coordinate solutions with leadership.
Safety & Compliance Leadership
Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and regulatory standards.
Provide operational safety oversight for employees, subcontractors, and equipment usage.
Leadership & Collaboration
Provide leadership and support to operational teams while partnering with Dispatch, Planning, Safety, HR, and Field Operations.
Act as the primary point of contact for operational communication between internal teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
Provide regular updates on performance, risks, challenges, and opportunities.
Required Qualifications & Experience
5-10 years of experience in transportation, logistics, heavy industry, mining, construction, or resource operations.
Proven experience managing contract-based or multi-site operations.
Strong understanding of operational and financial performance management.
Experience with P&L responsibility and cost management.
Demonstrated leadership experience in safety-focused environments.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting industrial, mining, or large-scale operations.
Knowledge of transportation, rail, bulk commodities, or logistics operations.
Familiarity with regional safety and regulatory requirements.
Project Management certification (PMP or equivalent) is an asset.
