This role is offers a hybrid model with 2-3 days in office/week.
Position Scope:
The Manager, Accounting (Construction), is responsible for providing direction and oversight to the Construction Accounting team across the company (the team of Construction Accountants and Project Accountants that support real estate). This role works closely with the Senior Director, Financial Operations, to achieve accurate and effective financial reporting for the business.
This role is also responsible for the monthly accounting cycle for the Construction Accounting team including the accounting for real estate projects and project costs. The Manager, Accounting (Construction), produces and analyzes financial information critical to business interests as well as creating and presenting reports to management to enable knowledge-based decision-making.
Responsibilities:
FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING AND REPORTING
- Assist in the implementation, optimization, and maintenance of finance and accounting systems, workflows, and operational processes.
- Manage and oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and reporting work for the Construction Accounting team, including reviewing and posting of all transactions.
- Contributes to the preparation of CLC’s consolidated financial statements through the timely close of month-end and the provision of accurate and complete financial information by the Construction Accounting team.
- Ensure accurate job costing for financial reporting.
- Prepare monthly WIP schedules for project transparency.
- · Assist with funding draw submissions.
- · Collaborates with the Senior Director, Financial Operations to ensure standardization of the accounting for projects and financial reporting across the regions.
- Provide financial and operational analysis to support business operations, project costing, and management decision making.
- Review and analyze the following financial information: Review balance sheet continuity for any accounting issues; Identify unusual non-recurring transactions; Monitor cash flow, working capital and liquidity position; Review progress draw submissions.
- Assist in the review and maintenance of accurate and updated project information for the Executive Dashboard.
- Review financial tables for Board Reports that are prepared by the Construction Accountants to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Ensure the team is following International Financial Reporting Standards and internal accounting policies.
BUSINESS OPERATIONS SUPPORT
- Collaborate with operational teams for financial accuracy.
- Collaborate with the business to improve processes and create efficiencies.
- Provide direction and support to the team as necessary on commitments and accounts payable, including adherence to our Delegation of Authority.
- Develop and produce reports to present financial details in a user-friendly accessible format for our business partners (This may include the design and build of Hubble reports).
- Lead the Finance Onboarding of new real estate team members, partnering with the Construction/Project Accountants.
TEAM MANAGEMENT
- Collaborate with the Senior Director, Financial Operations to build a motivated team capable of providing excellent, value-added services to our business partners, including team planning and recruitment.
- Provide troubleshooting for the team with respect to any issues or challenges that arise (i.e. accounting treatments, IT issues).
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and development opportunities to the team.
- Oversee the objective setting and performance management for the team.
- Create a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Manage the workload of the team in an effective and fair manner.
BUDGETING/FORECASTING
- Oversee the work done by the Construction Accounting team as part of the completion of the 5-year budget, including review of proformas and budget materials.
- Ensure the requirements set by Real Estate and Finance are met including timing and accuracy.
- Manage the Construction Accounting team portion of the reforecasting process as required.
- Monitor any changes in the operational activities that may have a financial impact and/or create a variance from budget/forecast.
AUDIT AND TAX
- Manage the requirements to complete work required for the interim and year end audits, including the ‘prepared by client’ requirements and supporting documentation.
- Work with the Construction Accountants to ensure all audit requirements are met including supporting walk throughs and providing appropriate supporting documentation.
- Responsible to ensure we are current with the provincial and federal sales tax requirements.
- Assists on internal, governmental bodies and other special audits as required.
OTHER
- Lead or assist with special projects as requested by the Senior Director, Financial Operations (i.e. may include process improvements, accounting system upgrades, and other departmental initiatives).
- Safeguard the company assets by ensuring adherence to all Company policies and departmental procedures.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in business, finance or accounting required.
- Professional accounting designation required (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA).
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of accounting and finance experience required.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of supervisory experience required.
- Strong understanding of accounting standards (IFRS) is required.
- Experience in real estate land development accounting is preferred.
- Knowledge of JD Edwards and Hubble software is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office 365 software, and specifically Microsoft Excel spreadsheets is required.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is required.
Compensation: $99,077-112,000 base salary, bonus, pension, benefits, health spending account, etc.
