North Island Medical Clinic (NIMC) is looking for a 1.0 FTE Nurse Practitioner to join its team. NIMC provides specialized service in providing wrap-around care to those are marginalized and vulnerable and focus on low barrier access to primary care for those struggling with mental health, substance use issues, homelessness, and racism.
The clinic is a collaborative team of Nurse Practitioners and Family Physicians, including a Social Worker, Registered Nurses, and a Clinical Pharmacist. Many of the people who access care at our clinic face systemic barriers within the health care system and we work as a team to ensure we are reducing these barriers so people may access culturally safe and trauma-informed care. This is a Primary Care Network contracted position. Please note the target attachment numbers are reduced given the patient population.
Responsibilities:
- Provide primary care to patients of all ages, including acute care, pediatrics, and senior care
- Conduct comprehensive physical examinations and medical assessments
- Diagnose and treat common illnesses and injuries
- Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with patients and their families
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as lab work and imaging studies
- Prescribe medications and monitor patient response to treatment
- Perform minor procedures, such as wound care and suturing
- Provide patient education on disease prevention, health promotion, and management of chronic conditions
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records
Qualifications:
- Valid Nurse Practitioner license in British Columbia
- Master's degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner
- Experience working with vulnerable and marginalized patients is highly desired
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment
