The mandate of the Safety, Compliance, Training and Development Service is to provide training and development, safety and compliance, and quality and continuous improvement of bus, para transit and light rail services. Services and programs include appropriate safety and job training for transit employees, and the compliance, development and implementation of safety standards to protect the general public.
You serve as the training performance specialist for Transit Operations, ensuring instructor and operator performance for bus, Para Transpo bus, light rail operations, and transit maintenance personnel. You provide professional leadership and coordination in the planning, implementation and administration of training section strategies, policies and programs for training performance, and establish and maintain positive client relationships with internal and external management and stakeholders.
In addition, you: train, develop, monitor and evaluate instructors and relief instructors who provide training, consistent with corporate strategic direction and corporate vision; ensure that the training needs of all section staff are met, including refresher and remedial training/testing; conduct branch campaigns such as safe driving awards, winter driving protocols, etc.; provide functional expertise and support to Transit Operations via various committees, including accident review, technical advisory; work closely with the program manager to administer the MTO Driver Certification Program and the CVOR; manage an accident tracking program for reporting/maintaining and analyzing information related to bus or rail collisions; and oversee the proper compilation, accessibility, retention and destruction of important training-related records.
You also supervise the operations of the work unit, including organization structure and job design, are responsible for developing and monitoring operating budgets, and manage the human resources of the unit, including hiring, termination, performance management and discipline of staff as necessary, and act as spokesperson for the employer at grievance hearings.
