The Paint Leadhand is responsible for organizing daily work to meet production schedules while supporting painting and prep activities as required. This role trains and assists painters to improve quality and efficiency, ensuring all safety procedures and quality standards are consistently followed. The Leadhand maintains clean, organized work areas, inspects finished products, and ensures accurate completion of process documentation.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Organize and prepare work to meet the demands of the schedule.
- Painting and prepping when needed.
- Ensure that all work cells are clean and free from debris and clutter so that the shop is tour ready at all times.
- Train and assist painters to improve quality and efficiencies.
- Ensure that all safety procedures are followed and adhered to.
- Inspect parts for quality and help employees to achieve top quality product.
- Spot check on parts to ensure a clean finish to products.
- Read and understand processes sheets, all drawings and set up instructions.
- Maintain the tool boards and their inventory.
- Support foreman as required.
- Responsible for accurately filling out process sheets and accurately counting number of pieces completed.
- Reports all damaged goods and or scrap to supervisor.
- Knows material sizes and specifications of product being worked on.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to read and understand shop drawings.
- Must be able to paint with electrostatic paint guns and conventional pot guns.
- Must be able to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
- Has some knowledge of proper maintenance of equipment under this classification.
- Is familiar with and has understanding of most painting jobs and operations.
- Must be capable of working under minimum amount of supervision.
- Must be familiar with all shop tools related to the job.
- Knowledgeable in workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.
- Able to effectively communicate in both technical and user-friendly language when appropriate, with all types of staff, including technical, professional, and upper management.
- Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with business units, corporate departments, key managers, and other stakeholders.
- Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines.
