Job Description
Reporting directly to the President, the Controller oversees all financial operations of the company and is responsible for overseeing the organization's full accounting function, preparing accurate monthly financial statements, coordinating year-end financial reporting with external accountants, and leading the accounting team.
Responsibilities include the following but not limited to:
- Manage all accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, payroll, and daily cash flow, including U.S. dollar transactions
- Oversee the accounts payable and accounts receivable team while monitoring departmental workflow
- Reconcile data integrations from specialized software (import and export files)
- Maintain payroll records and related filing requirements (WSIB, EHT, and T4 reporting)
- Manage and comply with federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Maintain cash flow by monitoring bank balances and cash requirements
- Process, verify, and record financial documents, and liaise with banking contacts
- Perform month-end and year-end closing processes
- Provide supporting documentation and coordinate external audits
- Benefits plan administration (budgeting and monthly monitoring)
- Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations
- Identify and implement process improvements
- Additional duties as required
Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting/Finance
- Proven experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, or in a similar senior accounting role
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting and finance experience, preferably in a leadership role
- Experience in the transportation or logistics industry is considered an asset;
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures;
- Experience managing the full accounting cycle;
- Experience managing staff
- Experience with budgeting and forecasting
- Experience preparing financial analysis and reporting for ownership and executive management
- Experience developing and maintaining internal controls and financial policies
Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
