The Kootenay Livestock Association (KLA) represents livestock producers throughout the East Kootenay region of BC and supports the industry through advocacy, education, and stewardship initiatives.
KLA administers the Grassland Rangeland Enhancement Program (GREP), a producer-focused stewardship program that supports projects improving grassland health, range management, biodiversity, and conservation outcomes.
KLA is seeking an experienced contractor to coordinate and deliver GREP throughout the region.
The GREP Program Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, administration, and delivery of GREP, including program planning, financial management, project coordination, producer engagement, field support, communications, and reporting.
Working with producers, funding partners, government representatives, technical specialists, contractors, and community organizations, the Coordinator supports successful project delivery and ensures accountability to the KLA, funders, and GREP participants.
GREP is a producer-focused program that benefits from adaptive management. The successful contractor should be comfortable working alongside agricultural producers, understanding operational realities, building trust-based relationships, and translating program objectives into practical on-the-ground outcomes.
The successful contractor should demonstrate:
- Experience managing agricultural, environmental, natural resource, or community-based programs.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Experience with budgets, reporting, and funding agreements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital document management systems.
- Ability and willingness to conduct field visits, producer meetings, and project inspections throughout the region.
- Comfort working in a variety of outdoor conditions and terrain.
- Awareness of field safety considerations related to livestock operations and remote travel.
- Ability to travel regularly throughout the East Kootenay region as required.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience or knowledge of:
- livestock production;
- range management;
- grassland ecology;
- agricultural stewardship;
- environmental programs;
- grant administration;
- producer organizations; or
- non-profit governance.
The initial contract term will run from September 15, 2026, to April 30, 2027, with a contract value of $45,000 as the contract commences partway through the annual program cycle. The contract may be renewed for a one-year term annually from May 1 to April 30 with a contract value of $72,000. The scope of work is estimated to average approximately 20 hours per week. Workload may fluctuate throughout the year to reflect the seasonal nature of the program and key reporting periods.
