The Department of Families is seeking a qualified individual to fill the Child Protection Specialist position on a regular / full-time basis.
Duties:
Reporting to the Supervisor of CFS Operations Support, the Child Protection Specialist is responsible for a full range of support for the delivery of statuary responsibilities under the Child and Family Services Act to the provincial child welfare system as well as new and emerging Indigenous Services providers mandated under the federal legislation. The Child Protection Specialist also establishes and maintains effective working relationships with provincial departments, CFS Authorities, CFS agencies, advocacy officers, community care providers and community based agencies, at times under difficult circumstances.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Bachelor degree in Social Work (BSW) preferred; or undergraduate degree in a related discipline will be considered
- Case management experience within the child and family service system, managing service delivery to clients and/or planning and evaluating services delivered to clients (e.g. dedicated agency liaison, presentations to groups, panels, working groups, inquiries, complaint resolution, etc.)
- Experience working in a child and family services or related environment.
- Thorough knowledge of child and family services including the governing and delivery of child protection programing in Manitoba
- Experience undertaking research and analysis for policy development and implementation using qualitative and quantitative research methods including critically evaluating options and making recommendations
- Effective verbal communication skills with the ability to present information to a variety of audiences, including senior government officials, executive management and authorities
- Excellent written communication skills with experience preparing a variety of documents for various audiences
- Strong political acumen, with the ability to manage confidential, controversial or politically sensitive material and situations in an appropriate manner
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of First Nation and Metis issues, including the impacts of colonization, the historical impacts of residential schools, and the principles of reconciliation
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships within a range of diverse stakeholders
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess and maintain a valid Full Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License and have access to a personal vehicle
- Must be able to travel throughout the province as required, including air travel on small aircraft, with occasional overnight stays
- Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
- Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check
- Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check
