Our Kelowna location is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to support our diverse airport operations. This is a full-time position with start times that may vary within the needs of our station. Occasional weekend work may be required.
Description:
The Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of the FBO operations, including operational support, staffing coordination, compliance follow-up, facility upkeep, employee performance, customer service execution, and support of safety and training requirements. The Operations Manager works closely with the General Manager, Operations Supervisors, HSSE/Safety/Training Lead, Customer Service Representatives and Fuelers to ensure the operation is safe, efficient, compliant and customer focused.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and develop operations staff, including recruitment, scheduling, performance management, employee relations, and engagement.
- Plan, prioritize, and supervise daily fuel, ramp, and facility operations to ensure safe, efficient, and effective workflow.
- Support and oversee training completion to ensure compliance with company, regulatory, and Shell Aviation requirements.
- Coordinate compliance and site accountability audits; track corrective actions and ensure timely resolution.
- Maintain accurate operational, training, and compliance records and documentation.
- Communicate updates to policies, procedures, pricing, and operational requirements to staff and stakeholders.
- Coordinate and participate in internal and external operational communications, including team briefings, customer and tenant communications, preparation of operational documentation, and attendance at Airport Operations Committee (AOC) and other stakeholder meetings as required.
- Provide active operational support, including participating in day-to-day activities and acting as on-call support when required.
- Oversee facility maintenance and contractor coordination to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations.
- Oversee operational reporting, inventory controls, reconciliations and related administrative processes.
- Ensure availability and management of fuel, equipment, uniforms, parts, and operational supplies.
- Ensure compliance with corporate, regulatory, OH&S, and Shell Aviation safety and quality standards.
- Conduct operational, safety, and compliance inspections; support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor labour efficiency, control overtime, and support achievement of operational and financial targets.
- Lead and participate in safety programs, including enforcement of procedures and support of SMS initiatives.
- Complete and review reports, including incident follow-up, audits, and operational documentation.
- Address customer concerns and support service recovery to ensure a positive and professional customer experience.
- Support the General Manager
- Maintain a tidy and orderly work area exhibiting pride in work performance and contributing to a healthy and safe work environment.
- Ensure exceptional, courteous, and respectful customer service.
- Comply with and participate in the Company’s Health & Safety and Quality programs and initiatives.
- Perform any other duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Certificate or diploma in Aviation or a related field is an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory or management experience in aviation, fuel operations, logistics, transportation, facilities, or a related operational environment.
- Knowledge of aviation fueling, ramp operations, customer service, and/or FBO operations is an asset.
- Valid Class 3 driver’s license with Air Brake Endorsement and a clean driver’s abstract is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications, including Shell ACE, AVOP, RAIC (as applicable), and Restricted Radio Operator Certificate – Aeronautical.
- Experience with staff scheduling, performance management, operational planning, and contractor coordination is an asset.
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office and database systems.
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Demonstrated analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, safety-sensitive environment.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic, professionalism, and positive team attitude.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and flexible schedules, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
- Able to work collaboratively as a productive member of the EFC Team.
