Who We Are:
We're a small team in Guelph building custom cabinetry and millwork for interior designers, architects, and private clients. Most of our work is residential, and most of it is designed by people who specify their own colours and expect a finish that holds across every component. Finishing is not a final step here. It's a defining part of the work. The booth is yours to run. You'll work directly with the project manager, the shop team, and the lead on each project.
The Opportunity:
This is a finishing-focused role responsible for surface preparation, sanding, spray application, and final quality control on high-end residential cabinetry. The work is colour-matched to designer specifications and finished to a high standard. While most of your time will be in the booth, you'll also support cabinet assembly and on-site install work as needed. Experience across finishing, assembly, and install is an asset. Finish quality at Arco Studio is determined as much by preparation as by spraying. We're looking for someone who understands that.
What you'll do
- Prepare surfaces through detailed sanding, cleaning, and priming for clean adhesion and a refined final finish
- Spray finish cabinetry, furniture, and select metal components to a consistent high standard
- Mix, match, and apply paints, stains, and coatings to designer-specified colours and sheens
- Maintain colour, tone, and sheen consistency across components and project phases
- Inspect, clean, and maintain spray equipment and the booth
- Manage booth conditions (humidity, temperature, air quality) for finish quality
- Support cabinet assembly and on-site install work as needed
What you bring
- Proven experience as a spray finisher with a focus on wood cabinetry
- Strong sanding and surface preparation skills, including MDF for painted finishes
- Working knowledge of finishing systems (waterborne, conversion varnish, stains, sealers)
- Confidence matching colour from a fan deck, sample, or designer spec
- A strong eye for consistency in colour, tone, and sheen
- Comfort with the periodic move from booth to assembly bench to install site
- Commitment to workplace safety standards
Considered an asset
- Metal finishing experience
- Experience leading or training others in a finishing environment
- Familiarity with high-end woodworking shops or millwork environments
