Overview
As a Journeyman, you will work directly with apprentice electricians and technicians to support the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical automation systems. This position will provide you with a hands-on learning experience in control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, motors, and other automation technologies.
Duties
- Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of automation systems, including PLCs, control panels, sensors, and motors.
- Support troubleshooting and diagnostics of automated systems in industrial or commercial settings.
- Learn to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and control system documentation.
- Work with automation programming tools and software under supervision, learning to write and modify simple control programs.
- Help with the setup and calibration of automated equipment and devices to ensure optimal performance.
- Follow electrical codes, safety standards, and company procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
- Participate in system testing, calibration, and validation of automated systems.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on automated systems to ensure continued functionality.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in an organized and safe manner.
- Continuously expand your knowledge of automation technologies, electrical components, and industry standards.
Skills
- Proficient in blueprint reading and understanding of schematics.
- Experience as an industrial electrician is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of low voltage systems and their applications.
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and safety equipment used in electrical work.
- Previous experience in construction or renovation projects is a plus.
- Solid understanding of electrical codes, regulations, and best practices.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
