This role is ideal for an early-career engineer looking to build a strong foundation in industrial mechanical engineering. You will work alongside experienced engineers on the design, analysis, and delivery of mechanical systems supporting industrial facilities, mining operations, manufacturing plants, material handling systems, and related infrastructure.
The Role
As a Junior Mechanical Engineer, you will contribute to the design and delivery of mechanical systems and solutions for industrial projects under the guidance of Intermediate and Senior Engineers. You will gain hands-on experience in mechanical design, equipment selection, engineering calculations, site investigations, and multidisciplinary project coordination.
You will work closely with clients, vendors, contractors, and internal project teams while helping ensure designs are safe, efficient, practical, and aligned with applicable codes and standards.
Occasional travel to industrial sites and client facilities may be required.
What You'll Do
- Assist with the design and analysis of mechanical systems, equipment, piping systems, pumping systems, and industrial infrastructure.
- Prepare mechanical calculations, technical reports, specifications, and engineering documentation in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
- Support the preparation and review of P&IDs, datasheets, equipment specifications, and mechanical design documentation.
- Assist in the development of mechanical drawings, design packages, equipment layouts, and construction documents.
- Support equipment selection and evaluation, including pumps, piping components, process equipment, tanks, conveyors, and material handling systems.
- Participate in mechanical system modeling, hydraulic calculations, and engineering analysis.
- Prepare technical reports, design summaries, equipment datasheets, and supporting project documentation.
- Support field reviews, site investigations, equipment assessments, and construction-phase services.
- Assist with troubleshooting and resolving mechanical issues during design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
- Coordinate with electrical, structural, civil, instrumentation, process, and project management disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions.
- Participate in design reviews, coordination meetings, and technical problem-solving discussions.
- Support project execution by managing priorities, meeting deadlines, and communicating progress proactively.
- Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation, and efficient project delivery.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or eligible for registration with the applicable provincial engineering association.
- 1-3 years of relevant engineering experience (co-op or internship experience) is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
- Exposure to industrial, manufacturing, mining, energy, material handling, piping, or process facilities is considered an asset.
- Experience preparing engineering calculations, reports, drawings, specifications, or technical documentation is an asset.
- Familiarity with applicable engineering codes, standards, and industry practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively in a project environment.
- Commitment to professional integrity, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Working knowledge of design software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Plant 3D, SolidWorks, or similar platforms.
