Position: Battery Engineering Co-op Student

About Electrovaya: Electrovaya is a leader in lithium-ion battery technology, developing advanced battery systems for electric vehicles, material handling equipment, robotics, and energy storage applications. We are looking for a motivated Battery Engineering Co-op Student to join our R&D team and support day-to-day laboratory operations and battery testing.
This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in electrochemistry, battery technology, and hands-on engineering in a fast-paced research environment.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare, label, and organize battery cells for testing.
- Set up battery cycling tests using Neware and other battery testing equipment.
- Monitor ongoing tests and troubleshoot basic equipment or test issues.
- Collect, organize, and maintain experimental data.
- Assist with battery characterization tests, including capacity, rate capability, DCIR, HPPC, and cycle life testing.
- Perform routine laboratory tasks, including equipment setup, calibration, and maintenance.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Support inventory management of cells, fixtures, and laboratory supplies.
- Follow laboratory safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
- Assist engineers with experimental setup and special R&D projects as required.
Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Interest in lithium-ion batteries, electrochemistry, or energy storage technologies.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in a laboratory environment.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel is required.
- Experience with battery cyclers, data analysis, or laboratory equipment is considered an asset.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous laboratory or co-op experience.
- Familiarity with lithium-ion battery testing and characterization.
- Experience using battery cyclers (e.g., Neware), Acey, or similar testing software is an asset.
- Basic understanding of battery performance metrics and data analysis.
