Where You’ll Work
This is an on-site role working within our modern, purpose-built laboratory facility located in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Schedule
During the initial training and onboarding period, this position will typically work a Monday–Friday schedule during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
Because our laboratory operates seven days a week to support time-sensitive testing, team members are expected to work schedules that may include weekend and holiday coverage following completion of training.
Upon successful completion of training, the position will transition to a rotating or assigned schedule based on operational requirements. While employees will continue to work a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week, days of work may vary and could include weekends.
What You Will Do
Luminultra is recruiting a Laboratory Technician (Microbiology) to join our dynamic Food & Beverage laboratory team.
Our growing laboratory receives samples for microbiology analysis. In this hands-on role, the Laboratory Technician will receive and process samples daily to inspect for microorganisms using standard culture-based and rapid microbiology procedures.
The ideal candidate will be a team player, detail-oriented, and someone who takes a risk-based approach to ensure high quality work. This role works within a small team to ensure we honor our commitment to provide our clients with accurate and timely results. This position offers a base salary range of $40,000 – 44,000 CAD depending on experience.
As the Laboratory Technician, you will support key organizational objectives and have key responsibilities such as:

Examine samples (e.g., water, environmental, food, etc.) from new and existing clients for health hazards and spoilage-related microorganisms.

Properly handle and prepare samples for analysis according to SOPs.

Prepare culture media for the various analyses.

Perform sample transfers for specific procedures.

Record daily temperatures of incubators, rooms, and other equipment.

Check and record the accuracy of glassware cleaning through residue testing.

Regularly verify various equipment calibration which has a direct influence on test results.

Maintain QA/QC records of various media preparation dates and other associated information to correspond with prepared samples and controls.

Quality control on reagents and culture media.

Receive, properly store, and inventory samples and supplies.

Create and distribute accurate reports for clients based on testing results.

Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives

Equipment maintenance as necessary (on the job training provided).

Maintain a clean environment by washing, and if necessary, sterilizing tools, benches, equipment, and supplies.

Answer questions from clients related to their samples, results or testing needs.

Who You Are
You're a self-motivated individual, who is looking for an opportunity to develop within an organization that's on a consistent growth and expansion trajectory. Additionally, you bring skills and experience such as:

Bachelor of Science or Technical Degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemistry, or related discipline.

1-2 years’ experience working in a laboratory.

Ability to pipette accurately, carefully follow SOPs, and work at the bench for extended periods.
- Highly detail oriented and reliable team player.

Naturally curious and communicative

Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as necessary.

Experience in working within an ISO 17025:2017 or similar environment is an asset.

Experience working in a microbiological or sterile laboratory environment is an asset.
