COMMUNITY DISABILITY SUPPORT WORKER - In the town of Innisfail, Alberta
Advance Society Innisfail is a non profit charitable organization established in 1982 , to provide residential support to seniors with developmental disabilities. We work to develop, identify and expand opportunities for people to maximize their potential at home or in the community. We are a small agency with one ( 5 space support home that provides 24 hour care to 5 individuals). Advance Society Innisfail is a Licensed home under the CCLO ( Continuing Care Licensing Office ).
Community Disability Services Worker - Part Time ( evenings, sleep shifts, weekend shifts with the opportunity to cover for vacation and sick days ), flexibility and availability will determine the hours available
The Community Disability Services Worker is a front line community disability services role that has responsibility to support and facilitate development skills and competencies that will assist persons with disabilities to pursue and fulfill their goals, objectives and aspirations set out by Advance Society Innisfail and Disability services. The main activities and tasks of the role are as follows:
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personal care services according to the directions of the Executive Director and/or Supervisor and ensure that individual needs are met including feeding, dressing, bathing , positioning, lifting is a must .
- Provide personal hygiene care including bathing, dressing, toileting, personal hygiene ( incontinence care)
- Observe, document and report individual conditions on a daily basis
- Participate in Health and Safety activities and be responsible to notify office of any risks or concerns
- Understand and implement infection control prevention practices
- Maintain confidentiality of agency and individual information
- Perform specialized individual specific procedures – medication administration, support for medical appointments, positive behavior supports ,recreation/leisure support, personal shopping, personal care support and assistance , total care for non ambulatory individuals that utilize wheelchairs/walkers or any other AT-EI
- Community /recreational activities providing meaningful participation within the home and in the community by being aware of the individuals’ physical, social and recreational environments
- Provide social and emotional support
- Meal preparation/cooking ,menu planning, grocery shopping, daily housekeeping tasks ( laundry ,cleaning, general home maintenance )
- Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum Education : High School Diploma or equivalent Minimum 1 year of previous experience providing personal care with seniors, in a long-term care facility, and/or individual households, working with individuals with disabilities, dementia or related experience. We would be willing to train the right candidate with a strong desire to learn and a positive attitude
- Current First Aid & CPR certificate
- Medication administration
- Criminal reference check including Vulnerable Sector check prior to commencement of position
- Driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle/ clean driving record is a must
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong interpersonal skills - Team work is key
- Must participate in monthly Team Meetings and mandatory Staff Development
- The successful candidate will be required to complete Food Safe, Crisis Behavior Management Training, WHMIS, POPA, Safe Bathing, OHS, APRP , Positive Behavior Supports upon commencement of position
- We are a small team with a staffing compliment of 9 Team Members.
Starting hourly rate : $ 19.33 - $ 22.00 depending on experience, overnight sleep rate : $15.00 per hour (8 hour sleep shift).
