Pastoral Minister – Youth and Family Ministry
Position: Full-time Pastoral Minister (LEM) – Youth and Family Ministry
Work Location: Primary location – St. John the Baptist Church, 225 Brock St. Amherstburg, ON
Commitment: 25 hours per week. Weekends and evenings required. Possible split shifts and flexible hours, as required.
Compensation: Expected salary range: $23.36/hour - $31.51/hour. Placement within this range is commensurate with relevant industry experience, qualifications (education, skills) and/or professional designations. This position is eligible for participation in the DOL’s lay staff benefits and pension plans.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Pastor and working in collaboration with the Pastoral Team, this role is responsible for leading and supporting youth and family ministry within the Amherstburg-Harrow Catholic Family of Parishes. The successful candidate will provide leadership in developing and nurturing the catechetical, sacramental, and community life of the Family of Parishes, using their gifts and strengths to foster the spiritual growth and engagement of youth and families. The Lay Pastoral Minister for Family and Youth will collaborate with clergy, staff, and volunteers and contribute as an active member of the Pastoral Team by participating in meetings, sharing updates, and offering input on initiatives that support the life and ministry of the parishes.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
· Minister to youth and families through parish programming and activities that lead them to an encounter with Jesus Christ and accompany them in their call as young disciples.
· Recruit, train, and empower volunteers to support youth and family ministry initiatives across the Family of Parishes.
· Plan and facilitate mission-oriented sacramental preparation programs for Confirmation and the Rites of Christian Initiation for Children.
· Identify the needs of unengaged families and develop, implement, and evaluate family-centered programs and initiatives.
· Organize and oversee ministry within the Catholic schools in collaboration with the Pastor.
· Participate actively in staff meetings and contribute to the overall mission and planning of the Family of Parishes.
· Attend weekend liturgies as mutually agreed upon with the Pastor and support parish life through a visible and engaged presence.
· Maintain accountability to the Pastor/Administrator in all areas of ministry and ensure responsibilities are fulfilled in alignment with diocesan policies and guidelines.
· Participate in regular evaluation and ongoing formation processes during and after the probationary period to ensure effective ministry.
· Steward ministry resources responsibly, including programming funds, parish materials, and approved expenses, ensuring alignment with parish priorities.
· Other assignments, duties and projects as assigned to support the mission of the Family of Parishes.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
· A strong, actively practiced Catholic faith, with a commitment to the mission and teachings of the Church; a current letter of recommendation from the Pastor is required.
· Certificate in Pastoral Ministry, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral / Lay Ecclesial Ministry, Catechesis, or a related field (or willingness to obtain a qualification deemed equivalent by the Diocese of London).
· Good working knowledge of the evangelizing mission of the Church, including an understanding of the new evangelization, relational ministry, and intentional accompaniment/discipleship.
· Demonstrated leadership, organizational, teaching, and facilitation skills, along with strong verbal and written communication abilities.
· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a pastoral team.
· Ability to effectively recruit, train, support, and empower volunteers.
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage youth, families, and parishioners of all ages.
· Possess high levels of professionalism, discretion, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
· Familiarity with social media and digital tools for communication, outreach, and ministry engagement.
· Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, with a willingness to adapt hours to meet the pastoral needs of the Family of Parishes.
· Ability to be flexible and responsive to the diverse cultural traditions within the Family of Parishes.
· Must attend and participate in diocesan orientation and ongoing formation opportunities.
· Access to reliable transportation to travel within the Family of Parishes and the Diocese, as required.
· French language skills and previous experience in parish ministry are considered assets.
· Professional representative of the Diocese of London at all times, with a strong understanding of and commitment to supporting its mission.
A minimum of two references will be requested of those candidates selected for an interview in addition to the letter of recommendation from your Pastor.
A Vulnerable Sector police record check as deemed suitable by the Diocese of London will be required of the successful candidate.
