Intermediate Bookkeeper
Smith & Hersey Agribusiness Law LLP - Medicine Hat, AB
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Intermediate Bookkeeper to join our Medicine Hat team. This is a permanent, full-time role that combines accounting, administrative, and office support responsibilities and is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys taking initiative, and can manage multiple priorities with professionalism and discretion.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform day-to-day banking activities and bank reconciliations.
· Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
· Maintain work-in-progress and disbursement ledgers.
· Process Visa, MasterCard, and debit receipt postings.
· Maintain accurate financial and accounting records.
· Prepare reports for internal and external use, including Law Society reporting.
· Maintain trust account ledgers and assist with the resolution of financial inquiries.
· Close client files and process write-offs as required.
· Perform clerical duties such as filing, scanning, photocopying, and document management.
· Provide a wide range of administrative and office support services as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
· Minimum 3 years of experience in an accounting environment.
· Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, fixed assets, and bank/account reconciliations.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
· Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
· Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
· Professional attitude, appearance, and excellent customer service skills, both in person and over the phone.
· Ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and follow projects through to completion.
· Experience with office equipment such as scanners, printers, and photocopiers.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and discretion at all times.
· Willingness to learn, grow, and contribute to the success of the firm.
· Experience working in a legal office is a significant asset but not required.
· Working knowledge of ESI Law, Unity, and/or Amicus software would be considered an asset.
