Overview
The Lab Technologist provides quality laboratory testing in the Pathology Laboratory by observing the highest standards of accuracy, efficiency and safety according to established policies and procedures.
Education
- Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Technologist program
- Active MLT registration with the CMLTO
Qualifications
- Current experience in Histology, with demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge in problem solving and troubleshooting.
- Ability to cut a minimum of 25 blocks, with quality, per hour; with expectation to achieve 35 blocks per hour.
- Proficient with embedding, microtomy, special stains, including IHC
- Experience with histology instrumentation
- Experience with frozen sections preferred
- Experience in gross examination and dictation of surgical specimens preferred
- CoPath, Paradigmexperience preferred
- Ability to communicate and perform under pressure
- Good attendance and work record required
- Demonstrate interest in continuing personal and professional growth
- Mature responsible judgement
- Ability to communicate clearly, teach, problem solve and organize
- Self-motivated with ability to guide and motivate others
- Flexibility and willingness to work as part of team
- Knowledge with workplace and chemical safety
- Experience with QA, QI, and accreditation preferred
