What you will do
The Library Services Assistant provides a high level of customer service for all members of the community. This position is responsible for delivering reference, readers’ advisory, and technology support services, and services related to the circulation of materials. The position holder also performs a variety of duties in support of public service delivery.
In this role you will:
- Connect customers to information, including community, and internal resources
- Ensure smooth customer access to borrower services through membership registration, check in and out and renewing library materials, explaining policies and procedures and granting exceptions when appropriate, and the effective resolution of standard customer account issues and conversations
- Provide basic instruction to customers on the use of the library catalogue, print and electronic resources, public computer workstations, and printing and photocopying services
- Assist in the promotion of library initiatives and community events through material displays and poster boards
- Assist in the facilitation of select programming activities, in coordination with the Programming Outcomes team
What you bring
- Post-secondary diploma in a relevant field of study
- 1 to 2 years of library experience; 6-12 months of customer service experience
- Demonstrated ability to interact positively and build relationships with customers in a way that meets their unique needs
- Good written communication skills, including the ability to assess customer needs, listen, respond, and/or refer as required
- Ability to work in a team setting as well as independently
- Basic to intermediate technology skills with the ability to learn new technologies
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing needs and priorities
