POSITION SUMMARY
Under the guidance and direction of the Foreman or Construction Manager, the Apprentice Lineman assist in the construction and maintenance of power systems, and replaces or repairs defective power lines, sub-stations, and accessories.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Safety Leadership & Compliance
- Will implement safety policies, transporting materials, installing electrical transmission systems, performing repair work, and laying underground cable in trenches.
- Ability to adhere to Forbes Bros Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations, follow safety standards and ask questions, if needed, related to safety practices in the electrical construction industry.
Training & Documentation Management
- Willingness to enroll in and complete training and documentation toward Lineman certification.
- Willingness to learn and interpret site plans and construction drawings.
Essential Job Functions
- Install, inspect, maintain, and repair high and low voltage transmission and distribution electrical grid.
- Troubleshoot and repair overhead distribution and transmission lines.
- Install, inspect, maintain, repair, and modify high and low voltage transmission and distribution of electrical grid.
- Maintain interior, exterior, overhead, and underground electrical distribution systems.
- Install and maintain cables making part of power distribution systems.
- Assist in the construction, maintenance and removal of underground and overhead power lines and equipment.

- Able to work in a team to efficiently and effectively complete jobs within deadlines.
- Work safely and contribute to safety improvement initiatives.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
- At least 6 months’ experience in Powerline or related industry experience
Skills & Abilities
- Able to distinguish between colors
- Work safely and ability to recognize safety hazards and implement hierarchy of controls to eliminate hazards on site or in office
- Strong listening, problem solving and time management skills with the ability to meet various deadlines
- Strong verbal and written skills with the ability to communicate in a professional manner
- Ability to work with independently or within a team environment with minimal supervision
- Able and willing to travel and work frequent overtime and weekend hours to accommodate project schedules and/or business needs
- Physically fit and able to perform manual labour in varying weather conditions and environments, inclusive of heavy lifting
Additional Details
This position requires candidates to:
- Have and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract
- Successfully complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing
- Work on transmission line projects throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta, with an initial assignment in Regina, SK followed by Edmonton, AB
- Work a project-based rotation schedule, initially anticipated to be 21 days on / 7 days off
- Eligible for $200/day LOA where applicable while working away from home.
- Be willing to travel and relocate to project sites as required
Pay: $29.00-$53.00 per hour
