Plant Support Person – B&B Concrete Ltd. (Saskay Ready Mix)
Saskay Ready Mix under B&B Contracting Group is currently seeking a dedicated Plant Support Person to join our growing company. We are seeking candidates with experience in Concrete Mixer Driver roles.
The Plant Support Person at Saskay Ready Mix supports the daily operations of the concrete plant through a variety of yard, equipment, maintenance, material handling, and operational support duties. This role helps ensure the safe and efficient operation of the plant while assisting with concrete deliveries, housekeeping, and equipment operation. The position also provides relief coverage for the Batch Operator as required. In this capacity, the employee will have access to sensitive operational and business information and is expected to maintain strict confidentiality. This role requires effective communication with other labourers, machine operators, and site management to ensure smooth operations and adherence to safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Plant and Yard Operations
- Direct vehicle traffic and assist with site access to ensure safe and efficient movement throughout the yard.
- Fill, clean, strip, and maintain lock block forms.
- Wash out concrete mixer trucks and maintain washout areas.
- Load, unload, identify, and organize construction materials, equipment, and tools.
- Perform general plant and yard maintenance, including chipping, cleaning, housekeeping, and debris removal.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment safely and effectively.
- Operate loaders, skid steers, and excavators for yard maintenance and operational support.
- Operate and maintain the concrete reclaimer and associated water systems.
- Conduct routine yard inspections and report hazards, equipment deficiencies, or unsafe conditions.
- Assist with implementing corrective actions to maintain a safe workplace.
- Support plant operations during peak periods by loading and delivering concrete as required.
- Shuttle trucks and equipment to and from repair facilities when necessary.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
- Be available to provide on-call coverage as a Concrete Mixer Driver when operational needs require. Responsibilities may include conducting pre-trip inspections, safely operating and delivering ready-mix concrete to customer sites, maintaining accurate delivery records, communicating with dispatch and customers, monitoring concrete quality during transport, and performing post-trip inspections and vehicle cleaning.
Relief Batch Operator Responsibilities
- Coordinate the batching and loading of concrete orders to ensure accurate mix designs and timely delivery.
- Monitor batching operations to maximize plant efficiency and productivity.
- Manage inventory levels of aggregates, cement, admixtures, and other raw materials.
- Communicate with drivers regarding concrete performance and slump adjustments to ensure customer specifications are met.
- Collaborate with maintenance personnel to coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance activities.
- Participate in weekly, monthly, semi-annual, and annual plant inspections.
- Work closely with Quality Control personnel to ensure all products meet company and customer specifications.
- Assist the Plant Supervisor and Operations Manager in resolving operational, mechanical, process, productivity, and manpower-related issues.
- Maintain accurate operational records and documentation as required.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and WorkSafeBC requirements.
- Promote a safe and respectful work environment at all times.
- Wear and maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report incidents, near misses, and safety concerns immediately.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of construction-site or concrete labour experience.
- Valid Class 3 unrestricted driver’s license with a clean driving abstract.
- Ability to safely operate a loader, skid steer and excavator.
- Experience in concrete production, ready-mix operations, heavy civil construction, or highway construction is considered an asset.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Positive attitude and eagerness to learn new tasks.
- Physical capabilities required include but are not limited to, climbing, lifting, carrying a minimum of 75 lbs., entering confined spaces, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting, and performing repetitive actions.
