Senior Technical Writer - Contract - 19300
About the Opportunity
Our Public Sector client is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to support the continued modernization of a large-scale digital recruitment platform. This is an existing contract opportunity supporting the transition from an internally developed web portal to a modern cloud-based solution that must continue to integrate with existing enterprise and mission-critical systems.
The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, technical teams, functional authorities, and other stakeholders to develop clear, accurate, and user-friendly technical documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences. The role will also support the standardization of documentation practices across major capability releases.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Identify documentation requirements for major capability releases, including manuals, design documentation, test documentation, user guides, training materials, online help content, and implementation guides
Coordinate the development and formal release of documentation with functional managers, technical teams, and team leads
Develop documentation templates that follow Government of Canada documentation standards
Plan, design, edit, and, where required, produce final releasable versions of technical and project documentation
Conduct quality assurance reviews of documentation prepared for major capability releases
Participate in Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, and Formal Qualification Reviews
Prepare meeting minutes and records of decision arising from design reviews and other project meetings
Coordinate and assist with the translation of documentation
Provide technical documentation advice and guidance to the project team
Draft briefing notes, presentations, status reports, agendas, meeting minutes, and other project materials
Attend and actively participate in meetings and prepare records of discussion
Prepare progress reports
About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
Certificate, diploma or degree in the area of specialization from a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution
A minimum of five (5) years of experience within the last ten (10) years providing technical writing and documentation services in a large, complex IT environment
A minimum of three (3) years of experience within the last five (5) years producing technical documentation for enterprise-level applications
Experience producing at least three (3) of the following document types:
System or Solution Design Documents
User Guides or Operational Manuals
Test Plans, Test Reports, or Test Readiness Documentation
Training Materials or Online Help Content
Implementation or Deployment Guides
A minimum of three (3) years of experience within the last five (5) years coordinating documentation development with multiple stakeholders, including technical teams, project managers, and functional authorities, within large or complex IT environments
Experience developing documentation in accordance with Government of Canada documentation practices, including structured templates, version control, and release management processes
Experience supporting bilingual English and French documentation processes
Experience working on projects within the Government of Canada or another public sector organization
Experience producing documentation for integrated or mission-critical systems, including environments involving cloud platforms, legacy system integration, or systems handling protected or classified information
Ability to provide three (3) professional references who can validate the experience presented
A valid Secret-level security clearance
