The Students’ Association of Red Deer Polytechnic exists as per the Post-Secondary Learning Act (see Student Affairs section 93: Students association) and plays an important role in student life at Red Deer Polytechnic. It advocates for and represents students, provides a myriad of important (and fun!) services and events, and is one of the largest employers of students on campus.
Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Kitchen Supervisor to oversee the kitchen operations of the Farside Grill through effective staff supervision while maintaining a safe food -handling environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing kitchen staff and ensuring that food preparation and service are conducted efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.
Responsibilities
- Deliver excellent customer service at all times.
- Ensure a high level of cleanliness while complying with all food safety regulations and standards.
- Maintain good working relationship with suppliers, staff, and customers.
- Play an active role in developing and improving menu options and pricing to align with departmental budget projections.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of menu items, ingredients, preparation methods, kitchen procedures, and step in as line cook to maintain efficient kitchen operations and service standards.
- Ensure shifts are adequately covered in the absence of full-time or part-time employees.
- Train part-time front-end and kitchen staff.
- Order supplies and ensure inventory control measures are in place.
- Prepare monthly inventory reports in a timely manner.
- Exercise care and accountability when handling cash, debit transactions, or other forms of payment.
- Ensure garbage is emptied regularly and bins are cleaned.
- Ensure recyclables are collected and sorted in designated areas.
- Ensure all temperature logs are updated daily.
- Work catering events as required.
- Serve as secondary front-end person or cook as needed.
- Maintain an understanding of the bylaws and policies of the Association.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
Qualification and Skills
- Post-secondary education in Hospitality, Culinary Arts, or Food Service Management is considered an asset.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a kitchen, restaurant, or food service environment.
- Knowledge of restaurant/kitchen management practices, including inventory control and quality assurance.
- Familiarity with food safety standards and regulations.
- Demonstrates leadership abilities with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
