The Opportunity
We are seeking an Intermediate Project Engineer to join our growing Edmonton office. This role is ideal for someone who has developed strong technical foundations and is ready to take on more responsibility in project delivery, client coordination, and mentoring junior staff. You’ll work closely with senior engineers and project managers on multidisciplinary transportation projects that shape communities across Alberta.
This position is Edmonton based and offers the flexibility of remote work.
What You’ll Do
- Leading components of roadway, intersection, and other transportation design projects.
- Preparing and reviewing horizontal/vertical alignments, grading, cross sections, and design details using Civil 3D.
- Preparing technical reports, design briefs, cost estimates, and tender documents.
- Coordinating with clients, subconsultants, and internal teams to support project delivery.
- Leading a multi-disciplinary team to successfully manage and deliver construction assignments.
- Participating in proposal development, scope definition, and level of effort estimates.
- Providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and technologists.
What You’ll Bring
- A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- 8+ years of transportation engineering experience, ideally in Western Canada.
- Registration as a P.Eng. with APEGA (or eligibility for registration).
- Strong proficiency with Civil 3D is an asset.
- Familiarity with Alberta Transportation, City of Edmonton, and/or municipal design standards.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage tasks, meet deadlines, and contribute to project planning.
- A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for field work.
What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $130,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
