Facility Maintenance Coordinator
Expert Cleaners Inc. — On-Site Location: Private School Campus, Thornhill, Ontario Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week (5 days, 8 hours/day)
Expert Cleaners Job Overview
Expert Cleaners Inc. is a GTA-based commercial cleaning and building maintenance company that has served institutional, commercial, and educational clients across the Greater Toronto Area since 2006. We're looking for a hands-on, reliable Facility Maintenance Coordinator to be our dedicated, on-site representative at a private school campus in Thornhill.
This is a people-facing, hands-on role — not a desk job. You'll be the first point of contact for facility issues on a 75,000 sq. ft. campus set on 18 acres of buildings, forest trails, playgrounds, and outdoor learning space. You'll report to Expert Cleaners' Director of Operations, who provides ongoing supervision and support, and you'll work alongside a part-time Property Manager who oversees contractors, budget, and compliance — you won't be carrying this campus alone.
Duties
- Open and secure the building daily: disarm/arm alarms, run water systems, turn on/off lighting.
- Conduct daily inspections of forest trails, playgrounds, and grounds for hazards, debris, and safety concerns.
- Perform mid-day and end-of-day washroom and common-area checks, coordinating quick cleaning with the custodial team.
- Execute the site's preventative maintenance calendar: fire extinguisher checks, HVAC/air exchange unit servicing coordination, backflow preventer coordination, dehumidifier upkeep, and life-safety equipment checks (e.g., defibrillator status).
- Perform general repairs, including basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, drywall, flooring, and door/lock hardware fixes.
- Supervise traffic flow and site safety during student arrival and dismissal.
- Escort and supervise on-site contractors performing scheduled maintenance or repair work.
- Handle seasonal grounds work: grass cutting, flower bed maintenance, snow and ice management coordination, irrigation setup and teardown.
- Log daily work, completed tasks, and open issues using Expert Cleaners' facilities management software and QR-coded supply inventory system.
- Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, repairs, and safety checks for reporting to the Property Manager and school administration.
Experience
- Hands-on experience in facility, building, or property maintenance — institutional, educational, or commercial property experience is an asset.
- Comfortable performing general repairs across multiple trades: basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and drywall.
- Experience with work-order tracking or CMMS-style software is a plus; training is provided on Expert Cleaners' platform.
- Able to work independently on-site day-to-day while reporting into a supervisory structure.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all seasons, including grounds upkeep and winter site safety.
- Strong communication skills in English to coordinate with school staff, contractors, and Expert Cleaners management.
- Must be able to pass a vulnerable sector police record check, as this role is based on an active school campus.
Why Join Expert Cleaners
- You're never on your own. This role reports into Expert Cleaners' management structure, with direct supervision from our Director of Operations and support from an assigned Property Manager.
- Steady, full-time hours at a single, established site — no bouncing between locations.
- Room to grow within a company expanding its facility and property management services across the GTA.
If you're organized, hands-on, and take pride in keeping a facility running smoothly and safely, we'd like to hear from you.
