Simpson Print is an established print company providing high-quality print, finishing, and customer-focused service to a wide range of clients. With a team of approximately 60 employees, we are large enough to offer structure and stability, while still maintaining a hands-on, team-oriented workplace.
We are looking for an experienced Designer / Structural Engineer to join our team designing and engineering custom retail print displays, POP/POS displays, storefront displays, temporary and permanent displays, and large-format graphic installations. This role requires a creative problem solver with strong technical expertise who can take projects from concept through production.
The ideal candidate has 3+ years of experience in retail display design and engineering and is highly proficient in Rhino (Rhinoceros 3D) or an equivalent 3D/CAD software such as SketchUp or similar design programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and engineer custom retail displays, storefront displays, POP/POS fixtures, temporary and permanent displays, and branded environments.
- Create detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and production-ready files using Rhino or equivalent 3D/CAD software.
- Develop structural solutions that are functional, cost-effective, and manufacturable.
- Work closely with project managers, sales, production, installation teams, and clients to ensure successful project execution.
- Prepare shop drawings, assembly instructions, and engineering documentation.
- Select appropriate materials and construction methods for each project.
- Review prototypes and recommend design improvements.
- Ensure designs meet quality, safety, and production requirements.
- Manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
- Participate in client meetings to discuss project requirements, present design concepts, and provide technical solutions.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 3 years of experience in retail display, POP/POS, storefront display, temporary and permanent display, or large-format print display design and engineering.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience using Rhino (Rhinoceros 3D) or an equivalent 3D/CAD design program such as SketchUp or similar software.
- Strong understanding of structural design, fabrication, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience designing with materials including acrylic, wood, aluminum, steel, PVC, corrugated board, and other display materials.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with aluminum, MDF, and other common retail display materials.
- Ability to create detailed production drawings and manufacturing documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent client-facing, communication, presentation, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other CAD/design software.
- Experience working directly with retail clients from concept through installation
- Knowledge of large-format printing and digital fabrication.
- Experience with CNC machining, laser cutting, or other fabrication methods.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is an asset.
