Who we are:
Founded in Ottawa in 1971, Bio-Test has been providing best-in-class specimen collection and diagnostic services to Eastern Ontarians and is fully licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to perform tests in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, molecular microbiology, special chemistry and serology. Bio-Test is ISO 15189 Plus™ accredited through the Accreditation Canada (AC) and offers customized occupational health programs, including workforce specimen collection, radiology, and ultrasound services, as well as ECGs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for technical aspects of assigned bench(es) and/or departments on a day-to-day basis.
- Ensure all necessary minimum inventory levels of required supplies, reagents, QC’s and calibrators are maintained on hand. Communicating anticipating shortages in a timely manner is essential.
- Ensuring all necessary QC’s and Calibrators are successfully passed, prior to running patient samples for applicable benches/analyzers.
- Identifying opportunities for improved productivity and reporting to management.
- Ensuring applicable department(s) and/or benches are scrupulously maintained and operate consistently within Accreditation Canada’s requirements.
- Performing proficiency tests as required.
- Liaising with management on any concerns or potential problems (equipment, supplies, workflow, etc.).
- Keep work area clean and neat throughout and at the end of each shift.
- Performing specific tasks to ensure continuity of specimen processing and testing.
- Validate, approve and release analyzer QC, calibrator results.
- Validate, approve and release patient test results as required, in a timely manner.
- Carry out all work in accordance with Bio-Test Quality Management System and Safety policies.
- Understands occupational health and safety legislation.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Sound problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) is required.
- Must be a registered CMLTO member.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures.
- Experience with phlebotomy techniques for blood collection.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
