Legal Assistant – Corporate / Commercial Law
Du Plooy Law is a corporate and commercial law firm based in Calgary. We work closely with business owners, entrepreneurs, and growing companies on matters including corporate structuring, mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracts, and general business law.
This position offers the opportunity to work directly with lawyers on a wide variety of corporate matters while playing an important role in supporting client service and file management.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Legal Assistant to join our team.
Position Overview
The Legal Assistant will support the lawyers in managing corporate and commercial files, preparing legal documents, maintaining corporate records, and assisting with day-to-day administrative tasks. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable working in a small firm environment where initiative and attention to detail are valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and formatting legal documents and correspondence
- Assisting with corporate filings and registry searches
- Maintaining and updating corporate minute books and records
- Preparing basic corporate documents such as resolutions and governance materials
- Managing calendars, deadlines, and reminders
- Opening, organizing, and maintaining client files
- Communicating with clients and coordinating document execution
- Assisting with transaction closing documents and due diligence materials
- Managing incoming communications and general administrative support
Qualifications
- Legal Assistant diploma or equivalent experience
- Experience working in a law firm environment preferred
- Strong document formatting and organizational skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage deadlines
Preferred Experience
- Experience with corporate or commercial law matters
- Familiarity with Alberta Corporate Registry and Land Titles Office filings
- Experience maintaining corporate minute books
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: $50,000 – $60,000 per year, depending on experience
