Responsibilities & Tasks
- Read sketches and blueprints to calculate materials required and plan masonry work
- Prepare and lay bricks, concrete blocks, stone, structural tiles, and similar materials to construct or repair walls, foundations, and other structures in residential, industrial, and commercial construction
- Lay bricks, stone, or similar materials to provide veneer facing to walls or other surfaces
- Lay bricks or other masonry units to build residential or commercial chimneys and fireplaces
- Construct and install prefabricated masonry units
- Set up scaffolding and work platforms in accordance with OSHA / Ontario safety regulations
- Operate a zoom boom (telescopic handler) to move and manipulate heavy materials and supplies on site
- Lift and place heavy materials; transport bricks and masonry supplies to the scaffold work area
- Mix grout and mortar; cut bricks required for corners, arches, and complex patterns using hand and power tools
- Build patios, garden walls, and other decorative masonry installations
- Lay or install firebricks to line industrial chimneys and smokestacks
- Restore, clean, or repair existing masonry structures
- Conduct quality control checks on materials and completed work
- Supervise or provide guidance to apprentices and construction labourers
Qualifications
- Certificates, licences, memberships and courses
- Bricklayer Trade Certification (Ontario — preferred)
- Bricklayer Red Seal Certificate (asset)
- Working at Heights certification (required — Ontario)
- Zoom boom / telescopic handler operator certification (asset)
- Valid driver's licence
Asset: Additional coursework in advanced carpentry techniques, blueprint reading, concrete technology, or structural surveying is considered an asset.
Pay: $34.00 per hour
