Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.
The Carruthers Student Commons is a gathering and work space for students, with dedicated work spaces for Alberta School of Business student groups. The part-time staff are responsible for carrying out the day-to-day operation of the student commons. The part-time staff will be responsible for coordinating space booking and access, ensuring the space is well maintained and safe, carrying out tidying duties throughout the space, identifying issues that should be brought to the building manager, and performing opening/closing procedures. The part-time staff will support visitors with the technology as needed. The part-time staff are responsible for maintaining a welcoming environment for visitors, and supporting students with information and their activities. As a key point of contact for students, the part-time staff will have thorough knowledge and understanding of services available for students, including Health and Wellness and advising services. The part-time staff will provide on-site support for events happening in the space. Maintaining a professional level of written and verbal communication skills, strong decision- making ability, attention to detail, knowledge of and sensitivity to student wellness issues, and the ability to exercise sound judgement in responding to inquiries and determining when an inquiry should be redirected are requirements of this position.

Carry out opening and closing procedures including unlocking the front door.

Coordinate the space booking system and train users how to book space.

Diffuse visitor-facing situations and identify when to call for assistance.

Tidy Student Commons space, including café area.

Ensure the maintenance of the café, including coffee machines, sink, refrigerator, etc.

Have a good understanding of technology operations.

Carry out technological troubleshooting and report issues.

Carry out procedures to train space users to use on-site technology.

Maintain equipment with the support of IST.

Sign out and sign in technology supplies and other items (and follow up on unreturned items).

Encourage and carry out space code of conduct, intervening when possible, or identifying when further assistance is needed.

Assist space tenants with accessing and using space.

Investigate and provide information about student services on campus, including health and wellness supports, and student advising.

Identify opportunities to enhance students' experience in the student commons and/or the Alberta School of Business, working with staff to carry out ideas.

Assist with the coordination of Alberta School of Business events being hosted in the Carruthers Student Commons.

Post-secondary education in a related field is preferred (i.e. Business, Education or Library and Information Studies or equivalent). In lieu of formal education, work experience in a related field such as event planning; marketing and promotions, etc.

Demonstrated high level of customer service skills.

Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Efficient/strong computer skills with an ability to learn software programs quickly.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Ability to work in a busy area with frequent interruptions.

Highly motivated, ability to work independently; proactive self-starter.

Demonstrates ability to problem solve, assess a situation, mitigate risk, apply judgement and adapt; responds accordingly.
