Ontario Valve Repair Service Inc. is an established industrial valve repair and service company located in Markham, Ontario. We provide valve repair, rebuilding, testing, and supply services for customers across a wide range of industrial, institutional, commercial, and process-based environments.
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Shop Foreman to help lead the daily operation of our repair shop.
This is a key leadership position for someone who understands shop workflow, mechanical repair, customer urgency, quality workmanship, and the importance of clear communication between the shop, customers, and office administration staff.
Position Overview
The Shop Foreman will be responsible for supporting and coordinating the daily flow of work through the shop. This is a hands-on leadership role, not a desk-only supervisory position.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working directly on the shop floor, assisting Technicians, reviewing repairs, troubleshooting mechanical issues, communicating with customers, and working closely with office administration staff to keep jobs moving efficiently.
Priority will be given to candidates with direct experience in valve repair, industrial service, pressure equipment, millwright work, pump repair, machining, welding, or related mechanical trades.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support daily shop activities in a hands-on capacity
- Assist Technicians with valve disassembly, inspection, repair, testing, and reassembly as required
- Review incoming customer jobs and help determine scope of work, priorities, repair requirements, and next steps
- Support customer intake, including gathering job details, reviewing valve concerns, and communicating repair expectations
- Act as a liaison between the shop, customers, and office administration staff
- Coordinate shop workflow to ensure jobs are completed efficiently, accurately, and on schedule
- Communicate job status, delays, parts requirements, repair concerns, and priority changes to the appropriate team members
- Provide guidance, direction, and support to Technicians throughout the repair process
- Assist with troubleshooting and problem-solving on complex, urgent, or time-sensitive jobs
- Ensure repair and testing work is completed in accordance with company procedures, safety expectations, and quality standards
- Support accurate documentation, inspection notes, work order details, and internal communication
- Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and productive shop environment
- Identify issues early and help prevent delays, miscommunication, or rework
- Lead by example through professionalism, accountability, reliability, and quality workmanship
Required Qualifications
- Strong hands-on mechanical experience in an industrial, repair, service, or shop-based environment
- Previous experience as a Foreman, Lead Hand, Senior Technician, Supervisor, Millwright, Industrial Mechanic, Valve Technician, Pump Technician, or similar role
- Ability to lead, guide, and support shop staff in a respectful and productive manner
- Comfortable working directly on the shop floor and assisting with repairs when required
- Strong communication skills with customers, Technicians, and office administration staff
- Ability to review work orders, job notes, nameplate information, equipment details, and technical requirements
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple jobs and changing priorities
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and support practical repair solutions
- Safety-conscious with a strong commitment to quality, accuracy, and customer service
- Reliable, professional, and able to work independently as well as part of a team
Preferred Experience
Direct experience in any of the following areas will be considered a strong asset and will be prioritized during the hiring process:
- Valve repair, rebuilding, and testing
- Safety relief valves
- Control valves
- Pressure reducing valves
- Industrial valves and pressure equipment
- Pump repair
- Millwright or industrial mechanic work
- Machining, welding, or fabrication
- Steam, process, manufacturing, hospital, institutional, or industrial service environments
- TSSA, pressure equipment, or safety valve-related work
- Customer-facing industrial service or repair coordination
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a skilled, hands-on mechanical leader with direct experience in the valve repair or industrial service field.
They are comfortable being on the tools, supporting Technicians, speaking with customers, reviewing job priorities, and coordinating with office administration staff. They understand the urgency of customer shutdowns, repair timelines, and the importance of clear communication.
This person leads by example, takes ownership of daily shop flow, and has the confidence to make practical decisions while maintaining professionalism, safety, and quality.
We are looking for someone who wants to be part of a specialized industrial service company and contribute to improving shop efficiency, communication, and customer service.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a salaried position with compensation in the range of $85,000–$95,000 per year, based on experience, qualifications, and fit for the role.
A benefits package will be provided following successful completion of the 3-month probationary period.
Schedule
The regular schedule is Monday to Friday during daytime business hours.
Some evening and weekend work may be required from time to time based on customer shutdowns, urgent repairs, emergency work, or shop workload.
Pay: $40.87-$45.67 per hour
