Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Caregiver to join our team in caring for children with special needs in their own homes. As a Caregiver for children with various physical disabilities, cognitive disabilities, and/or medical needs, you will be responsible for creating a safe and nurturing environment for children in our care. Your role will involve engaging with children, providing age and ability-appropriate activities, and ensuring their well-being.
*The opening we currently have is with a teenage girl with physical and cognitive disabilities. Care includes personal care, feeding, mobility support, and companionship. Caregiver is required to have a vehicle to take her out of the home to activities. Both morning and afternoon shifts available- 8:00am-4:00pm and 12:00pm- 8:00pm. Training with current caregivers can begin asap.
Duties:
- Supervise and monitor children's activities at all times
- Create a structured and stimulating environment for children to learn and play
- Plan and implement age-appropriate educational activities
- Assist children with daily routines, such as mealtime, naptime, and toileting
- Maintain a clean and organized childcare space
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding their child's progress and any concerns that may arise
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all children in your care
Skills:
- Experience with children: Previous experience working or volunteering with children
- Caregiving: Ability to provide nurturing care to children with special needs, meeting their physical, emotional, and social needs.
- Classroom management: Ability to create a structured environment that promotes learning and positive behavior.
- Early childhood education: Knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate activities. Knowledge of "Triple P Parenting" principles is an asset.
- Educate: Ability to engage children in educational activities that promote their cognitive, physical, and social development.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Background check clearance including Vulnerable Sector Check
- Excellent communication skills
- Patience, compassion, and a genuine love for working with children
-preference given to candidates with experience caring for children with special needs and to candidates with relevant educational courses/certificates.
We offer competitive pay based on experience and qualifications. This position starts as part-time, with the potential to add hours up to full-time.
