What will you be doing!

Surveying using industry-standard instruments and maintaining engineering representations of field configuration.
-
Conducting accurate surveys in the field.
-
Converting survey data into accurate drawings and circulating them for reviews and approvals.
-
Organizing and maintaining survey instruments.
-
Preparing Digging Drilling Coring & Cutting (DDC&C) permits.
-
Interpreting requests for DDC&C and preparing permits using information in site drawings.
-
Circulating DDC&C permits for approval.
-
Filing approved DDC&C permits.
-
Following CNL’s Engineering Change Control procedure, maintain site utilities record drawings to accurately represent the field configuration.

Surveying and/or receiving survey data from contracted surveyors
-
Revising the utility record drawings to match the field conditions.
-
Circulating documents for review and approval, then file.
-
Supporting maintenance and construction crews with field mark-ups of line, grade and buried utilities.
Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:
-
Education
-
Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology, or equivalent formal education, in a field relevant to the position and six (6) to eight (8) years of pertinent technological experience. Or;
-
Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent, and ten to twelve (10-12) years of pertinent and progressive experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.

Certified Engineering Technologist certification is not required, but would be an asset.

Experience
-
Minimum five (5) years as a Civil Engineering Technologist working as a field surveyor and CADD operator.
-
Previous experience with geomantic information storage and retrieval systems would be an asset.
-
Experience supervising employees within a small-scope impact/complexity team performing similar technical work with a focus on short-term results (3 months).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-
Ability to use a computer with typical office software and some specialty programs for accessing company-specific information.
-
Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
-
Ability to perform typical calculations for civil engineering design and analysis.
-
Knowledge of industry regulations, codes, standards and quality assurance for civil engineering applications related to roads, earthworks and municipal utilities.

Ability to mentor junior employees along their career path.

Ability to assign, review and evaluate the technical work of employees under their supervision
-
Ability to interpret general management directives into day-to-day instruction.
-
Ability to report on the activities of a civil technology section – both verbally and in writing.
-
Operational knowledge of all types of land survey equipment, both to gather information and to provide line and grade.
-
Ability to manipulate land survey data using CADD and geomantic software.

Security Clearance Eligibility Required
-
Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

This position is part of the USW1568 Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the USW1568 Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.

Working schedule: Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week.
