The Program Assistant will support the planning, coordination, and delivery of group-based wellness programs for older adults. This includes social, recreational, and educational activities that support physical health, mental well-being, and social connection.
Working as part of the Caledon Meals on Wheels team, the Program Assistant ensures programs are welcoming, safe, and responsive to participant needs. The role supports client engagement, volunteer involvement, and consistent program delivery in alignment with organizational policies, procedures, and accreditation standards. This role is a new vacancy and is a full-time contract position for 9 weeks.
Contribution to Mission and Vision
This role directly supports Caledon Meals on Wheels’ mission by delivering programs that promote independence, safety, and quality of life for older adults. Through meaningful engagement and responsive programming, the Facilitator helps reduce social isolation, supports overall well-being, and contributes to a client-centred and inclusive community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Setting up and taking down program materials, supplies, and equipment
- Welcoming participants and helping create a friendly and inclusive environment
- Supporting group activities, social programs, recreational sessions, and wellness activities
- Helping participants during programs, while respecting dignity, independence, and individual needs
- Assisting with attendance, registration, participant feedback, and other basic records
- Supporting staff and volunteers during program delivery
- Helping maintain safe, clean, and welcoming program spaces
- Promoting programs through basic outreach, phone calls, flyers, or community engagement
- Following organizational policies related to health and safety, confidentiality, and client care
- Reporting any concerns or participant needs to the appropriate staff member
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Is currently enrolled in, or interested in, recreation, gerontology, social services, health promotion, community services, or a related field
- Enjoys working with older adults and community members
- Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Is friendly, reliable, organized, and willing to learn
- Can work well as part of a team
- Is comfortable helping with group activities
- Has basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office or similar tools
Requirements
- Must meet eligibility requirements for Canada Summer Jobs 2026 grant, if applicable
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid driver’s licence and access to reliable transportation is considered an asset
- Ability to assist with light physical tasks, such as moving supplies, setting up chairs, and carrying program materials
Working Conditions
- Some travel between program locations may be required
- Light to moderate physical activity may be involved
- Frequent interaction with older adults, volunteers, and staff
- Occasional evening or weekend support may be required
