Operations Manager – Glass & Glazing

We are a growing, customer-focused glass and glazing company looking for an experienced Operations Manager to lead our shop, production, and daily operations. This is a key leadership position responsible for ensuring projects move efficiently from order to installation while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and customer service.
The ideal candidate has experience in the glass and glazing industry, understands fabrication and installation processes, and enjoys leading people, improving systems, and solving problems. You'll work closely with ownership, office staff, and installation crews to keep projects on schedule, support company growth, and create a culture of accountability and excellence.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Production Management
- Oversee all daily shop and production operations.
- Coordinate workflow between estimating, fabrication, staging, and installation teams.
- Ensure projects are fabricated, staged, and ready for installation on schedule.
- Monitor production capacity and proactively address bottlenecks.
- Maintain efficient communication between the shop, office, and field crews.
- Assist ownership with operational planning and continuous process improvement.
Customer Service & Project Coordination
- Respond to customer inquiries by phone, email, text, and walk-ins.
- Prepare quotations for small- and medium-sized glazing projects.
- Schedule estimates, installations, and service work using our scheduling software.
- Process customer payments and maintain accurate records.
- Perform site measurements and project scope reviews when required using a company vehicle.
Shop Leadership
- Lead and mentor shop personnel while fostering a positive, accountable team culture.
- Conduct weekly Toolbox Talks and safety meetings.
- Assign daily work priorities and monitor productivity.
- Train new employees on fabrication procedures, quality standards, and company expectations.
- Address performance concerns professionally and support employee development.
Glass Fabrication & Job Preparation
- Ensure installation crews leave with all required materials, including:
- Glass
- Hardware
- Shop drawings
- Tools
- Installation materials
- Verify jobs are staged accurately to reduce field delays.
- Prepare shower enclosures and specialty glass products for installation.
- Assist with cutting glass and fabrication as required.
Inventory & Purchasing
- Order glass, hardware, and shop supplies.
- Monitor inventory levels to prevent shortages and unnecessary overstock.
- Maintain organized storage of glass, hardware, carts, racks, and consumables.
- Coordinate material deliveries and inspect incoming shipments for accuracy.
Quality Control
- Inspect fabricated glass and staged jobs before shipment.
- Ensure products meet company quality standards and customer expectations.
- Reduce deficiencies, rework, warranty claims, and call-backs through proactive quality control.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote a safety-first culture throughout the organization.
- Enforce PPE requirements and safe work practices.
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free shop.
- Inspect equipment and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
Shop Organization & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and improve shop systems to increase efficiency and productivity.
- Improve material flow and workspace organization.
- Reduce waste, unnecessary movement, and production delays.
- Implement processes that improve accountability and consistency.
Problem Solving & Leadership
- Resolve production, scheduling, and logistical challenges quickly.
- Coordinate solutions between office staff, shop personnel, and installation crews.
- Identify issues before they impact customers or project schedules.
- Provide regular updates to ownership on production status, staffing, equipment, and operational performance.
- Contribute ideas that support long-term business growth and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Experience in the glass and glazing industry is strongly preferred.
- Previous leadership experience in construction, manufacturing, fabrication, or glazing operations.
- Strong understanding of glass fabrication, storefront, shower, mirrors, railings, and installation processes.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Experience with scheduling software is an asset.
- Ability to read shop drawings and construction plans.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Knowledge of inventory management and purchasing.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
