The Vacuum Truck Driver performs a variety of semi-skilled, skilled, and leadership tasks in the areas of portable toilet operations, He/she participates in the work of a crew performing portable toilet services for our customers, follows FLR guidelines for shop cleanliness and yard maintenance..
Essential Duties and Tasks:
- Conducts himself/herself with a positive can-do attitude
- Safe operation any FLR vehicle (e.g., vacuum trucks, skid steers), following all FLR, local, and provincial regulations
- Follows and fills out a daily route sheet for toilet cleanings, ensures all toilets are cleaned and restocked to FLR standards, reports all issues to dispatcher, and completes delivery/pick up dispatches accurately and on time
- Takes and uploads pictures of any issues that may cause the customer to be billed for extra work (e.g., dry runs, wait time, graffiti and damages to toilets, equipment or locked sites blocking toilet access)
- Completes pre-trips and log books according to established FLR and AB Ministry of Transportation standards
- Follows established company and government safety procedures while on site, in the shop, or working in the yard to ensure the safety of labourers and the general public
- Executes guidelines from FLR Transport Safety Manual
- Minimizes/eliminates damage to FLR and customer property and equipment
- Drives in a professional, first-class, and cautious manner, observing all regulations. He/she knows that any demerits or infractions negatively impact FLR’s carrier profile
- Provides accurate, friendly, and responsive service to all customers (e.g., following dispatch installation instructions, contacting the customer for each dispatch before arriving on site, following all site rules and regulations; ensuring dispatcher is notified when a site or toilet(s) cannot be accessed)
- Follows dispatch completion procedures by closing out dispatches promptly and including detailed notes in HelpDesk reply
- Is proactive and anticipates the needs for each day’s work, be it in the field, shop, and/or yard
- Completes AM and Return-to-Base checklists
- Drives vehicles of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment and material
- Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment. Supervises and performs routine inspection, cleaning, and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor(s)
- Performs other duties as needed

- The capacity to manage and resolve conflict with coworkers, site supervisors, and/or customers
- Thorough knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in each area of assigned work
- Considerable knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned areas of work; ability to work safely
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands to feel, handle, and/or operate objects, tools, and/or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, stoop, kneel, lift, and bend at the knees. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions or uneven ground surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud on occasion.
Significant amount of the day is spent working and driving alone.
